God said to Abraham, “As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you throughout their generations.


For you have separated them from among all the peoples of the earth to be your heritage, just as you promised through Moses, your servant, when you brought our ancestors out of Egypt, O Lord God.”


And you made your people Israel to be your people forever, and you, O Lord, became their God.


Who can confront it and be safe? —under the whole heaven, who?


Will it make many supplications to you? Will it speak soft words to you?


For the Lord has chosen Jacob for himself, Israel as his own possession.


The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it,


All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his decrees.


He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in his sight, and give heed to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will not bring upon you any of the diseases that I brought upon the Egyptians, for I am the Lord who heals you.”


“But if you listen attentively to his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and a foe to your foes.


Then he took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people, and they said, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient.”


He said, “If now I have found favor in your sight, my Lord, I pray, let my Lord go with us. Although this is a stiff-necked people, pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.”


I will take you as my people, and I will be your God. You shall know that I am the Lord your God, who has freed you from the burdens of the Egyptians.


But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where my people live, so that no swarms of flies shall be there, that you may know that I the Lord am in this land.


Moses said to him, “As soon as I have gone out of the city, I will stretch out my hands to the Lord; the thunder will cease, and there will be no more hail, so that you may know that the earth is the Lord’s.


My vineyard, my very own, is for myself; you, O Solomon, may have the thousand and the keepers of the fruit two hundred!


If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land,


But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, my friend;


But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine.


For thus says the Lord: To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, who choose the things that please me and hold fast my covenant,


The portion of Jacob is not like these, for he is the one who formed all things, and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance; the Lord of hosts is his name.


For as the loincloth clings to one’s loins, so I made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to me, says the Lord, in order that they might be for me a people, a name, a praise, and a glory. But they would not listen.


But this command I gave them, “Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people; walk only in the way that I command you, so that it may be well with you.”


I passed by you again and looked on you; you were at the age for love. I spread the edge of my cloak over you and covered your nakedness: I pledged myself to you and entered into a covenant with you, says the Lord God, and you became mine.


But I have said to you, ‘You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you to possess, a land flowing with milk and honey. I am the Lord your God; I have separated you from the peoples.’


You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.


Woe to those who are at ease in Zion and for those who feel secure on Mount Samaria, the notables of the first of the nations, to whom the house of Israel resorts!


They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, my special possession on the day when I act, and I will spare them as parents spare their children who serve them.


for “the earth and its fullness are the Lord’s.”


But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, out of consideration for the one who informed you and for the sake of conscience—


Although heaven and the heaven of heavens belong to the Lord your God, the earth with all that is in it,


the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I am commanding you today;


For you are a people holy to the Lord your God; it is you the Lord has chosen out of all the peoples on earth to be his people, his treasured possession.


“You shall not eat anything that dies of itself; you may give it to aliens residing in your towns for them to eat, or you may sell it to a foreigner. For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. “You shall not boil a kid in its mother’s milk.


Today the Lord has obtained your agreement: to be his treasured people, as he promised you, and to keep all his commandments;


for him to set you high above all nations that he has made, in praise and in fame and in honor; and for you to be a people holy to the Lord your God, as he promised.”


“If you will only obey the Lord your God, by diligently observing all his commandments that I am commanding you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth;


The Lord will establish you as his holy people, as he has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in his ways.


But the Lord has taken you and brought you out of the iron smelter, out of Egypt, to become a people of his very own possession, as you are now.


The Lord our God made a covenant with us at Horeb.


For you are a people holy to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on earth to be his people, his treasured possession.


For they are your people, your very own possession, whom you brought out by your great power and by your outstretched arm.’


He it is who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds.


By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to set out for a place that he was to receive as an inheritance, and he set out, not knowing where he was going.


not like the covenant that I made with their ancestors on the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, for they did not continue in my covenant, and so I had no concern for them, says the Lord.


The people said to Joshua, “The Lord our God we will serve, and him we will obey.”


But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.


And Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obedience to the voice of the Lord? Surely, to obey is better than sacrifice and to heed than the fat of rams.
