Then Israel said to Joseph, “I am about to die, but God will be with you and will bring you again to the land of your ancestors.


The people believed, and when they heard that the Lord had given heed to the Israelites and that he had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped.


Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her.


Fear seized all of them, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen among us!” and “God has visited his people!”


so Jacob went down to Egypt. He himself died there as well as our ancestors,


and their bodies were brought back to Shechem and laid in the tomb that Abraham had bought for a sum of silver from the sons of Hamor in Shechem.


By faith Joseph, at the end of his life, made mention of the exodus of the Israelites and gave instructions about his burial.


The bones of Joseph, which the Israelites had brought up from Egypt, were buried at Shechem, in the portion of ground that Jacob had bought from the children of Hamor, the father of Shechem, for one hundred pieces of money; it became an inheritance of the descendants of Joseph.
