It came between the army of Egypt and the army of Israel. And so the cloud was there with the darkness, and it lit up the night; one did not come near the other all night.


Seven days passed after the Lord had struck the Nile.


The magicians tried to produce gnats by their secret arts, but they could not. There were gnats on both humans and animals.


And the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God!” But Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he would not listen to them, just as the Lord had said.


But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where my people live, so that no swarms of flies shall be there, that you may know that I the Lord am in this land.


Only in the land of Goshen, where the Israelites were, was there no hail.


But the Lord will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt, so that nothing shall die of all that belongs to the Israelites.’ ”


I will lead the blind by a road they do not know; by paths they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I will do, and I will not forsake them.


And I also withheld the rain from you when there were still three months to the harvest; I would send rain on one city and send no rain on another city; one field would be rained upon, and the field on which it did not rain withered;


Then once more you shall see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.


He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son,


When they cried out to the Lord, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians and made the sea come upon them and cover them, and your eyes saw what I did to Egypt. Afterward you lived in the wilderness a long time.


But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
