The dead do not live; shades do not rise because you have punished and destroyed them and wiped out all memory of them.


The people of long ago are not remembered, nor will there be any remembrance of people yet to come by those who come after them.


For in death there is no remembrance of you; in Sheol who can give you praise?


And just as it is appointed for mortals to die once and after that the judgment,


Their children come to honor, and they do not know it; they are brought low, and it goes unnoticed.


For there is no enduring remembrance of the wise or of fools, seeing that in the days to come all will have been long forgotten. How can the wise die just like fools?


Let them be before the Lord continually, and may his memory be cut off from the earth.


Then I saw the wicked approaching to sacrifice; they go in and out of the holy place, and they boast in the city that they have done such things. This also is vanity.


For you are our father, though Abraham does not know us and Israel does not acknowledge us; you, O Lord, are our father; our Redeemer from of old is your name.


It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting, for this is the end of everyone, and the living will lay it to heart.


I know that you will bring me to death, to the house appointed for all living.


But whoever is joined with all the living has hope, for a living dog is better than a dead lion.


Whatever your hand finds to do, do with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.


We must all die; we are like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up. But God will not take away a life; he will devise plans so as not to keep an outcast banished forever from his presence.


But I, O Lord, cry out to you; in the morning my prayer comes before you.


Finally the woman also died.
