So the Lord said, “I will blot out from the earth the humans I have created—people together with animals and creeping things and birds of the air—for I am sorry that I have made them.”


But the Lord had not said that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven, so he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Joash.


Smoke went up from his nostrils and devouring fire from his mouth; glowing coals flamed forth from him.


Let them be blotted out of the book of the living; let them not be enrolled among the righteous.


O God, why do you cast us off forever? Why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture?


He made a path for his anger; he did not spare them from death but gave their lives over to the plague.


For they provoked him to anger with their high places; they moved him to jealousy with their idols.


How long, O Lord? Will you be angry forever? Will your jealous wrath burn like fire?


O Lord God of hosts, how long will you be angry with your people’s prayers?


You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me


for you shall worship no other god, because the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.


but the wicked will be cut off from the earth, and the treacherous will be rooted out of it.


For jealousy arouses a husband’s fury, and he will show no restraint when he takes revenge.


Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, passion fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, a raging flame.


When its boughs are dry, they are broken; women come and make a fire of them. For this is a people without understanding; therefore he who made them will not have compassion on them; he who formed them will show them no favor.


And I will dash them one against another, parents and children together, says the Lord. I will not pity or spare or have compassion when I destroy them.


I will direct my indignation against you, in order that they may deal with you in fury. They shall cut off your nose and your ears, and your survivors shall fall by the sword. They shall seize your sons and your daughters, and your survivors shall be devoured by fire.


I the Lord have spoken; the time is coming; I will act. I will not refrain; I will not spare; I will not relent. According to your ways and your doings I will judge you, says the Lord God.


therefore thus says the Lord God: I am speaking in my hot jealousy against the rest of the nations and against all Edom, who, with wholehearted joy and utter contempt, took my land as their possession, because of its pasture, to plunder it.


Therefore, as I live, says the Lord God, surely, because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your detestable things and with all your abominations, therefore I will withdraw; my eye will not spare, and I will have no pity.

It stretched out the form of a hand and took me by a lock of my head, and the spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and brought me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the gateway of the inner court that faces north, to the seat of the image of jealousy that provokes to jealousy.


Then God said to me, “O mortal, lift up your eyes now in the direction of the north.” So I lifted up my eyes toward the north, and there, north of the altar gate, in the entrance, was this image of jealousy.


As for me, my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity, but I will bring down their deeds upon their heads.”


A jealous and avenging God is the Lord; the Lord is avenging and wrathful; the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries and prolongs it against his enemies.


Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the Lord’s wrath; in the fire of his passion the whole earth shall be consumed, for a full, a terrible end he will make of all the inhabitants of the earth.


For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you.


He who did not withhold his own Son but gave him up for all of us, how will he not with him also give us everything else?


Or are we provoking the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?


Therefore when the Lord your God has given you rest from all your enemies on every hand, in the land that the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance to possess, you shall blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; do not forget.


All who hear the words of this oath and bless themselves, thinking in their hearts, ‘We are safe even though we go our own stubborn ways’ (thus sweeping away the moist with the dry)—


Let me alone that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven, and I will make of you a nation mightier and more numerous than they.’


for indeed our God is a consuming fire.


If you conquer, you will be clothed like them in white robes, and I will not erase your name from the book of life; I will confess your name before my Father and before his angels.
