Asa went out to meet him, and they drew up their lines of battle in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.


Asa cried to the Lord his God, “O Lord, there is no difference for you between helping the mighty and the weak. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O Lord, you are our God; let no mortal prevail against you.”


O our God, will you not execute judgment upon them? For we are powerless against this great multitude that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”


He said, “Listen, all Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: Thus says the Lord to you: Do not fear or be dismayed at this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God’s.


With the Lord on my side I do not fear. What can mortals do to me?


Some take pride in chariots and some in horses, but our pride is in the name of the Lord our God.


Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Come, behold the works of the Lord; see what desolations he has brought on the earth.


“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery;


Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and who rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the Lord!


do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.


When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.


Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look, the young woman is with child and shall bear a son and shall name him Immanuel.


Therefore, the days are surely coming, says the Lord, when it shall no longer be said, “As the Lord lives who brought the people of Israel up out of the land of Egypt,”


Together they shall be like warriors in battle, trampling the foe in the mud of the streets; they shall fight, for the Lord is with them, and they shall put to shame the riders on horses.


When you go to war in your land against the adversary who oppresses you, you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, so that you may be remembered before the Lord your God and be saved from your enemies.


He has not beheld misfortune in Jacob, nor has he seen trouble in Israel. The Lord their God is with them, acclaimed as a king among them.


What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us?


I said to you, ‘Have no dread or fear of them.


Surely the Lord your God has blessed you in all your undertakings; he knows your going through this great wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing.” ’


Before you engage in battle, the priest shall come forward and speak to the troops


and shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel! Today you are drawing near to do battle against your enemies. Do not lose heart or be afraid or panic or be in dread of them,


Be strong and bold; have no fear or dread of them, because it is the Lord your God who goes with you; he will not fail you or forsake you.”


It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”


“When the Lord your God brings you into the land that you are about to enter and occupy and he clears away many nations before you—the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations more numerous and mightier than you—


do not be afraid of them. Just remember what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt,


Have no dread of them, for the Lord your God, who is present with you, is a great and awesome God.


Know, then, today that the Lord your God is the one who crosses over before you as a devouring fire; he will defeat them and subdue them before you, so that you may dispossess and destroy them quickly, as the Lord has promised you.


No one shall be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you.


I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”


And Joshua did to them as the Lord had commanded him; he hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots with fire.


The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, “The Lord is with you, you mighty warrior.”


The Lord said to him, “But I will be with you, and you shall strike down the Midianites, every one of them.”


David said to Saul, “Let no one’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”
