You shall put the cover on the top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the covenant that I am giving you.


Then Moses turned and went down from the mountain, carrying the two tablets of the covenant in his hands, tablets that were written on both sides, written on the front and on the back.


He was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.


Moses came down from Mount Sinai. As he came down from the mountain with the two tablets of the covenant in his hand, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God.


He took the covenant and put it into the ark and put the poles on the ark and set the cover above the ark,


I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets, which you smashed, and you shall put them in the ark.’


“So I turned and went down from the mountain, while the mountain was ablaze; the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.


(Joshua set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the covenant had stood, and they are there to this day.)
