Then a breach was made in the city wall; the king with all the soldiers fled by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, by the King’s Garden, though the Chaldeans were all around the city. They went in the direction of the Arabah.


So they went after them as far as the Jordan; the whole way was littered with garments and equipment that the Arameans had thrown away in their haste. So the messengers returned and told the king.


On that day people will throw away to the moles and to the bats their idols of silver and their idols of gold, which they made for themselves to worship,


For on that day all of you shall throw away your idols of silver and idols of gold, which your hands have sinfully made for you.


Then a breach was made in the city wall, and all the soldiers fled and went out from the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, by the King’s Garden, though the Chaldeans were all around the city. They went in the direction of the Arabah.


And the prince who is among them shall lift his baggage on his shoulder in the dark and shall go out; he shall dig through the wall and carry it through; he shall cover his face so that he may not see the land with his eyes.


Dig through the wall in their sight, and carry the baggage through it.


Therefore they shall now be the first to go into exile, and the revelry of the loungers shall pass away.


Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the Lord’s wrath; in the fire of his passion the whole earth shall be consumed, for a full, a terrible end he will make of all the inhabitants of the earth.


For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life?


Gilead stayed beyond the Jordan, and Dan, why did he abide with the ships? Asher sat still at the coast of the sea, settling down by his landings.
