in all their distress. It was no messenger or angel but his presence that saved them; in his love and pity it was he who redeemed them; he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.


The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.


It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.


“Now when forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in the flame of a burning bush.


“It was this Moses whom they rejected when they said, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’ and whom God now sent as both ruler and liberator through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.


You are the ones who received the law as ordained by angels, and yet you have not kept it.”


Much, in every way. For in the first place, the Jews were entrusted with the oracles of God.


They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises;


Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the offspring would come to whom the promise had been made, and it was ordained through angels by a mediator.


Moses charged us with the law as a possession for the assembly of Jacob.


For if the message declared through angels proved valid, and every transgression or disobedience received a just penalty,


Indeed, the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.


For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic elements of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food,


Whoever speaks must do so as one speaking the very words of God; whoever serves must do so with the strength that God supplies, so that God may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ. To him belong the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
