So he dispatched a man from his presence. Now Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. Before the messenger arrived, Elisha said to the elders, “Are you aware that this murderer has sent someone to take off my head? When the messenger comes, see that you shut the door and hold it closed against him. Is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?”


You make friends with a thief when you see one, and you keep company with adulterers.


Yet they tested the Most High God and rebelled against him. They did not observe his decrees


The people quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the Lord?”


He called the place Massah and Meribah, because the Israelites quarreled and tested the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”


Be assured, the wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will escape.


All those who are arrogant are an abomination to the Lord; be assured, they will not go unpunished.


Their hands are skilled to do evil; the official and the judge ask for a bribe, and the powerful dictate what they desire; thus they pervert justice.

Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ”


So he summoned him and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear about you? Give me an accounting of your management because you cannot be my manager any longer.’


Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing on the neck of the disciples a yoke that neither our ancestors nor we have been able to bear?


The young men came and wrapped up his body, then carried him out and buried him.


And how are they to proclaim him unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”


Now we know that, whatever the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world may be held accountable to God.


We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did, and were destroyed by serpents.
