and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with endurance, and endurance with godliness,

He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead.


Little children, let no one deceive you. Everyone who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous.


You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder.


And just as it is appointed for mortals to die once and after that the judgment,


Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest is still open, let us take care that none of you should seem to have failed to reach it.


But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” so that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.


But the scripture has imprisoned all things under the power of sin, so that what was promised through the faith of Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.


For all of us must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may receive due recompense for actions done in the body, whether good or evil.


The children of God and the children of the devil are revealed in this way: all who do not do what is right are not from God, nor are those who do not love a brother or sister.


In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I solemnly urge you:


For he says, “At an acceptable time I have listened to you, and on a day of salvation I have helped you.” Look, now is the acceptable time; look, now is the day of salvation!


Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive commendation from God.


I have a hope in God—a hope that they themselves also accept—that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.


When they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some scoffed, but others said, “We will hear you again about this.”


And Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three Sabbath days argued with them from the scriptures,


Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”


instruction about baptisms and laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment.


“Thus says the Lord of hosts: These people say the time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord’s house.”


I hear, and I tremble within; my lips quiver at the sound. Rottenness enters into my bones, and my steps tremble beneath me. I wait quietly for the day of calamity to come upon the people who attack us.


Do horses run on rocky crags? Does one plow the sea with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,


But let justice roll down like water and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.


Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.


They utter mere words; with empty oaths they make covenants; so litigation springs up like poisonous weeds in the furrows of the field.


On the day of our king the officials became sick with the heat of wine; he stretched out his hand with mockers.


Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting contempt.


Therefore, O king, may my counsel be acceptable to you: atone for your sins with righteousness and your iniquities with mercy to the oppressed, so that your prosperity may be prolonged.”


“Thus says the Lord God: Enough, O princes of Israel! Put away violence and oppression, and do what is just and right. Cease your evictions of my people, says the Lord God.


Is not my word like fire, says the Lord, and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?


For I, the Lord, love justice, I hate robbery and wrongdoing; I will faithfully give them their recompense, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.


Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near;


Set forth your case, says the Lord; bring your proofs, says the King of Jacob.


Tremble, you women who are at ease; shudder, you complacent ones; strip and make yourselves bare, and put sackcloth on your loins.


then a throne shall be established in steadfast love in the tent of David, and on it shall sit in faithfulness a ruler who seeks justice and is swift to do what is right.


How the faithful city has become a prostitute! She that was full of justice, righteousness lodged in her— but now murderers!


Indeed, so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I tremble with fear.”)


So then, each one of us will be held accountable.


I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, on the basis of God’s mercy, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable act of worship.


on the day when, according to my gospel, God through Christ Jesus judges the secret thoughts of all.


Agrippa said to Paul, “Are you so quickly persuading me to become a Christian?”


But when the Jews of Thessalonica learned that the word of God had been proclaimed by Paul in Beroea as well, they came there, too, to stir up and incite the crowds.


But get up and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do.”


But they made light of it and went away, one to his farm, another to his business,


That very night Belshazzar, the Chaldean king, was killed.


Thus says the Lord: Act with justice and righteousness and deliver from the hand of the oppressor anyone who has been robbed. And do no wrong or violence to the alien, the orphan, and the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place.


All these things my hand has made, so all these things are mine, says the Lord. But this is the one to whom I will look, to the humble and contrite in spirit who trembles at my word.


Come now, let us argue it out, says the Lord: If your sins are like scarlet, will they become like snow? If they are red like crimson, will they become like wool?


For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.


Rejoice, young man, while you are young, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Follow the inclination of your heart and the desire of your eyes, but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.


If you see in a province the oppression of the poor and the violation of justice and right, do not be amazed at the matter, for the high official is watched by a higher, and there are yet higher ones over them.


It is an abomination to kings to do evil, for the throne is established by righteousness.


My flesh trembles for fear of you, and I am afraid of your judgments.


The Lord is king; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!


May he judge your people with righteousness and your poor with justice.


you love righteousness and hate wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions;


For the Lord is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face.


I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and a turban.


Then all the people of Judah and Benjamin assembled at Jerusalem within the three days; it was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month. All the people sat in the open square before the house of God, trembling because of this matter and because of the heavy rain.


So now let us make a covenant with our God to send away all these wives and their children, according to the counsel of my lord and of those who tremble at the commandment of our God, and let it be done according to the law.


because your heart was penitent and you humbled yourself before the Lord, when you heard how I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and because you have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, says the Lord.


When Ahab heard those words, he tore his clothes and put sackcloth over his bare flesh; he fasted, lay in the sackcloth, and went about dejectedly.


The God of Israel has spoken; the Rock of Israel has said to me: “One who rules over people justly, ruling in the fear of God,


Now, therefore, take your stand so that I may enter into judgment with you before the Lord, and I will declare to you all the righteous acts of the Lord that he performed for you and for your ancestors.


At the same time he hoped that money would be given him by Paul, and for that reason he used to send for him very often and converse with him.


When they heard all the words, they turned to one another in alarm and said to Baruch, “We certainly must report all these words to the king.”


but he must be hospitable, a lover of goodness, self-controlled, upright, devout, and restrained,
