Moses was very angry and said to the Lord, “Pay no attention to their offering. I have not taken one donkey from them, and I have not harmed any one of them.”


If others share this rightful claim on you, do not we still more? Nevertheless, we have not made use of this right, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of the gospel of Christ.


But I have made no use of any of these rights, nor am I writing this so that they may be applied in my case. Indeed, I would rather die than that—no one will deprive me of my ground for boasting!


What then is my wage? Just this: that in my proclamation I may make the gospel free of charge, so as not to make full use of my rights in the gospel.


Do we not have the right to our food and drink?


Did I commit a sin by humbling myself so that you might be exalted, because I proclaimed God’s good news to you free of charge?


And when I was with you and was in need, I did not burden anyone, for my needs were supplied by the brothers who came from Macedonia. So I refrained and will continue to refrain from burdening you in any way.


Make room in your hearts for us; we have wronged no one; we have corrupted no one; we have taken advantage of no one.


As you know and as God is our witness, we never came with words of flattery or with a pretext for greed,


to tend the flock of God that is in your charge, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion but willingly, as God would have you do it, not for sordid gain but eagerly.


for they began their journey for the sake of Christ, accepting no support from nonbelievers.
