You, therefore, must not listen to your prophets, your diviners, your dreamers, your soothsayers, or your sorcerers, who are saying to you, “You shall not serve the king of Babylon.”


For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let the prophets and the diviners who are among you deceive you, and do not listen to your dreams that you dream,


the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule as the prophets direct; my people love to have it so, but what will you do when the end comes?


If someone were to go about uttering empty falsehoods, saying, “I will preach to you of wine and strong drink,” such a one would be the preacher for this people!


When the scribes and chief priests realized that he had told this parable against them, they wanted to lay hands on him at that very hour, but they feared the people.


“Woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.


But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me.


Now all the Athenians and the foreigners living there would spend their time in nothing but telling or hearing something new.


When I came to you, brothers and sisters, I did not come proclaiming the testimony of God to you with superior speech or wisdom.


My speech and my proclamation were made not with persuasive words of wisdom but with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power,


Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?


the sexually immoral, men who engage in illicit sex, slave traders, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to the sound teaching


Hold to the standard of sound teaching that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.


for they said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, indulging their own ungodly lusts.”
