The men of Israel were defeated there by the servants of David, and the slaughter there was great on that day, twenty thousand men.


Absalom happened to meet the servants of David. Absalom was riding on his mule, and the mule went under the thick branches of a great oak. His head caught fast in the oak, and he was left hanging between heaven and earth, while the mule that was under him went on.


The rest fled into the city of Aphek, and the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand men who were left. Ben-hadad also fled and entered the city to hide.


Rise up, O Lord! Deliver me, O my God! For you strike all my enemies on the cheek; you break the teeth of the wicked.


Vindicate me, O God, and defend my cause against an ungodly people; from those who are deceitful and unjust, deliver me!

for disaster comes from them suddenly, and who knows the ruin that both can bring?


As they fled before Israel, while they were going down the slope of Beth-horon, the Lord threw down huge stones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died; there were more who died because of the hailstones than the Israelites killed with the sword.
