But her husband went with her, weeping as he walked behind her all the way to Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, “Go back home!” So he went back.


The Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.


“You shall not revile God or curse a leader of your people.


But a young man saw them and told Absalom, so both of them went away quickly and came to the house of a man at Bahurim who had a well in his courtyard, and they went down into it.


They will pass through the land, greatly distressed and hungry; when they are hungry, they will be enraged and will curse their king and their gods. They will turn their faces upward,


Do not curse the king, even in your thoughts, or curse the rich, even in your bedroom, for a bird of the air may carry your voice, or some winged creature tell the matter.


Like a sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying, an undeserved curse goes nowhere.


Let them curse, but you will bless. Let my assailants be put to shame; may your servant be glad.


For they persecute those whom you have struck down, and those whom you have wounded they attack still more.


The king and all the people who were with him arrived weary at the Jordan, and there he refreshed himself.
