When God began to create the heavens and the earth,


These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created. In the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,


Then the man said, “You shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with humans and have prevailed.”


There he erected an altar and called it El-Elohe-Israel.


When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and said, “The Lord indeed is God; the Lord indeed is God.”


He said, “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth beneath, keeping covenant and steadfast love with your servants who walk before you with all their heart,


So now, O Lord our God, save us, I pray you, from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, O Lord, are God alone.”


Then he returned to the man of God, he and all his company; he came and stood before him and said, “Now I know that there is no God in all the earth except in Israel; please accept a present from your servant.”


And David and all Israel went up to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim, which belongs to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, the Lord, who is enthroned on the cherubim, which is called by his name.


Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory and that your hand might be with me and that you would keep me from hurt and harm!” And God granted what he asked.

And Ezra said, “You are the Lord, you alone; you have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. To all of them you give life, and the host of heaven worships you.


Long ago you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.


They will perish, but you endure; they will all wear out like a garment. You change them like clothing, and they pass away,


who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps faith forever;


for he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.


Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock! You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth


before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh. Stir up your might, and come to save us!


The Lord is king; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!


There I will meet with you, and from above the cover, from between the two cherubim that are on the ark of the covenant, I will tell you all that I am commanding you for the Israelites.


Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it; then Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord and spread it before the Lord.


When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst, I the Lord will answer them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.


You are my witnesses, says the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me.


Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: I am the first, and I am the last; besides me there is no god.


Do not fear or be afraid; have I not told you from of old and declared it? You are my witnesses! Is there any god besides me? There is no other rock; I know not one.


Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.


“Ah Lord God! It is you who made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.


So the people sent to Shiloh and brought from there the ark of the covenant of the Lord of hosts, who is enthroned on the cherubim. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
