When he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who were to sing to the Lord and praise him in holy splendor, as they went before the army, saying, “Give thanks to the Lord, for his steadfast love endures forever.”


King Hezekiah and the officials commanded the Levites to sing praises to the Lord with the words of David and of the seer Asaph. They sang praises with gladness, and they bowed down and worshiped.


Only a few from Asher, Manasseh, and Zebulun humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem.


There was great joy in Jerusalem, for since the time of Solomon son of King David of Israel there had been nothing like this in Jerusalem.


The people of Israel who were present kept the Passover at that time and the Festival of Unleavened Bread seven days.


On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people away to their homes, joyful and in good spirits because of the goodness that the Lord had shown to David and to Solomon and to his people Israel.


Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions of them to those for whom nothing is prepared, for this day is holy to our Lord, and do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”


And all the assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made booths and lived in them, for from the days of Jeshua son of Nun to that day the Israelites had not done so. And there was very great rejoicing.


Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread; on the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses, for whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day shall be cut off from Israel.


Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a festival to the Lord.

When the festival was ended and they started to return, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but his parents were unaware of this.


Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was near.


Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.


Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts,


And you shall rejoice before the Lord your God, you together with your sons and your daughters, your male and female slaves, and the Levites who reside in your towns (since they have no allotment or inheritance with you).


And you shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God, you and your households together, rejoicing in all the undertakings in which the Lord your God has blessed you.


Rejoice during your festival, you and your sons and your daughters, your male and female slaves, as well as the Levites, the strangers, the orphans, and the widows resident in your towns.


Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.
