21 King Uzziah had a defiling disease to the day of his death, and being diseased lived in a separate house, for he was excluded from the house of the Lord. His son Jotham was in charge of the palace of the king, governing the people of the land.

Now there were four men with a defiling skin disease outside the city gate who said to one another, “Why should we sit here until we die?


When the chief priest Azariah, and all the priests, looked at him, he was diseased on his forehead. They hurried him out, and he himself hurried to get out, because the Lord had struck him.


Jotham was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jerushah daughter of Zadok.


He shall remain unclean as long as he has the disease; he is unclean. He shall live alone; his dwelling shall be outside the camp.


The one who is to be cleansed shall wash his clothes and shave off all his hair and bathe himself in water, and he shall be clean. After that he shall come into the camp but shall live outside his tent seven days.


So Miriam was shut out of the camp for seven days, and the people did not set out on the march until Miriam had been brought in again.


The Israelites did so, putting them outside the camp; as the Lord had spoken to Moses, so the Israelites did.
