Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and people, that they should be the Lord’s people; also between the king and the people.


They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their ancestors, with all their heart and with all their soul,


They took an oath to the Lord with a loud voice and with shouting and with trumpets and with horns.


All Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn with all their heart and had sought him with their whole desire, and he was found by them, and the Lord gave them rest all around.


Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with the Lord, the God of Israel, so that his fierce anger may turn away from us.


So now let us make a covenant with our God to send away all these wives and their children, according to the counsel of my lord and of those who tremble at the commandment of our God, and let it be done according to the law.

This one will say, “I am the Lord’s”; another will be called by the name of Jacob; yet another will write on the hand, “The Lord’s,” and adopt the name of Israel.
