Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.


for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever.


I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you.


Asa cried to the Lord his God, “O Lord, there is no difference for you between helping the mighty and the weak. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O Lord, you are our God; let no mortal prevail against you.”


They have lived in it and in it have built you a sanctuary for your name, saying,


and you found his heart faithful before you and made with him a covenant to give to his descendants the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite, and the Girgashite, and you have fulfilled your promise, for you are righteous.


you with your own hand drove out the nations, but them you planted; you afflicted the peoples, but them you set free;


for not by their own sword did they win the land, nor did their own arm give them victory, but your right hand, and your arm, and the light of your countenance, for you delighted in them.


You brought a vine out of Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it.


“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery;


I will send an angel before you, and I will drive out the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.


I will take you as my people, and I will be your God. You shall know that I am the Lord your God, who has freed you from the burdens of the Egyptians.


But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, my friend;


After saying this, he told them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going there to awaken him.”


I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing, but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father.


driving out before you nations greater and mightier than yourselves, to bring you in, giving you their land for a possession, as it is still today.


Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness,” and he was called the friend of God.


Be strong and courageous, for you shall lead this people to possess the land that I swore to their ancestors to give them.


For the Lord has driven out before you great and strong nations, and as for you, no one has been able to withstand you to this day.


I gave you a land on which you had not labored and towns that you had not built, and you live in them; you eat the fruit of vineyards and oliveyards that you did not plant.


Then I took your father Abraham from beyond the River and led him through all the land of Canaan and made his offspring many. I gave him Isaac,
