Then the king of Israel summoned an officer and said, “Bring quickly Micaiah son of Imlah.”


David assembled at Jerusalem all the officials of Israel, the officials of the tribes, the officers of the divisions that served the king, the commanders of the thousands, the commanders of the hundreds, the stewards of all the property and cattle of the king, and his sons, together with the palace officials, the mighty warriors, and all the warriors.


The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is still one other by whom we may inquire of the Lord, Micaiah son of Imlah, but I hate him, for he never prophesies anything favorable about me but only disaster.” Jehoshaphat said, “Let the king not say such a thing.”


Now the king of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah were sitting on their thrones, arrayed in their robes, and they were sitting at the threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria, and all the prophets were prophesying before them.


Some of your own sons who are born to you shall be taken away; they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”


Then the king commanded his palace master Ashpenaz to bring some of the Israelites of the royal family and of the nobility:


He will take one-tenth of your grain and of your vineyards and give it to his officers and his courtiers.
