7 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is still one other by whom we may inquire of the Lord, Micaiah son of Imlah, but I hate him, for he never prophesies anything favorable about me but only disaster.” Jehoshaphat said, “Let the king not say such a thing.”

Evil brings death to the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be condemned.


by the noise of the enemy, because of the clamor of the wicked. For they bring trouble upon me, and in anger they bear a grudge against me.


rescue me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters.


Like a gold ring or an ornament of gold is a wise rebuke to a listening ear.


The bloodthirsty hate the blameless, and they seek the life of the upright.


Do not rebuke a scoffer, lest he hate you; rebuke the wise, and he will love you.


who say to the seers, “Do not see,” and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us what is right; speak to us smooth things; prophesy illusions;


Then they said, “Come, let us make plots against Jeremiah, for instruction shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, let us bring charges against him, and let us not heed any of his words.”


Then the officials said to the king, “This man ought to be put to death because he is discouraging the soldiers who are left in this city and all the people by speaking such words to them. For this man is not seeking the welfare of this people, but their harm.”


They hate the one who reproves in the gate, and they abhor the one who speaks the truth.


Should this be said, O house of Jacob? Is the Lord’s patience exhausted? Are these his doings? Do not my words do good to one who walks uprightly?


Immediately the king sent a soldier of the guard with orders to bring John’s head. He went and beheaded him in the prison,


“Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man.


If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not have sin. But now they have seen and hated both me and my Father.


The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify against it that its works are evil.


Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?
