Asa did what was right in the sight of the Lord, as his father David had done.


He put away the illicit priests out of the land and removed all the idols that his ancestors had made.


But the high places were not taken away. Nevertheless, the heart of Asa was true to the Lord all his days.


So Abijah slept with his ancestors, and they buried him in the city of David. His son Asa succeeded him. In his days the land was quiet for ten years.


He took away the foreign altars and the high places, broke down the pillars, cut down the sacred poles,


King Asa even removed his mother Maacah from being queen mother because she had made an abominable image for Asherah. Asa cut down her image, crushed it, and burned it at the Wadi Kidron.


His heart was courageous in the ways of the Lord; furthermore, he removed the high places and the sacred poles from Judah.


He walked in the way of his father Asa and did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of the Lord.


A letter came to him from the prophet Elijah, saying, “Thus says the Lord, the God of your father David: Because you have not walked in the ways of your father Jehoshaphat or in the ways of King Asa of Judah


Now when all this was finished, all Israel who were present went out to the cities of Judah and broke down the pillars, cut down the sacred poles, and pulled down the high places and the altars throughout all Judah and Benjamin, and in Ephraim and Manasseh, until they had destroyed them all. Then all the people of Israel returned to their cities, all to their individual properties.


Hezekiah did this throughout all Judah; he did what was good and right and faithful before the Lord his God.


he broke down the altars, beat the sacred poles and the images into powder, and demolished all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem.


you shall not bow down to their gods or serve them or follow their practices, but you shall utterly demolish them and break their pillars in pieces.


in holiness and righteousness in his presence all our days.


Break down their altars, smash their pillars, burn their sacred poles with fire, and cut down the idols of their gods, and thus blot out their name from their places.
