Rehoboam appointed Abijah son of Maacah as chief prince among his brothers, for he intended to make him king.


Rehoboam resided in Jerusalem, and he built cities for defense in Judah.


When the rule of Rehoboam was established and he grew strong, he abandoned the law of the Lord, he and all Israel with him.


Their father gave them many gifts of silver, gold, and valuable possessions, together with fortified cities in Judah, but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram because he was the firstborn.


And his master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly, for the children of this age are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than are the children of light.
