Now Absalom had set Amasa over the army in the place of Joab. Amasa was the son of a man named Ithra the Ishmaelite, who had married Abigal daughter of Nahash, sister of Zeruiah, Joab’s mother.


And David sent forth the army: one third under the command of Joab; one third under the command of Abishai son of Zeruiah, Joab’s brother; and one third under the command of Ittai the Gittite. The king said to the men, “I myself will also go out with you.”


Adonijah, fearing Solomon, got up and went to grasp the horns of the altar.


He conferred with Joab son of Zeruiah and with the priest Abiathar, and they supported Adonijah.


But if someone willfully attacks and kills another by treachery, you shall take the killer from my altar for execution.


You shall make horns for it on its four corners; its horns shall be of one piece with it, and you shall overlay it with bronze.


for the day of vengeance and recompense, for the time when their foot shall slip? Because the day of their calamity is at hand; their doom comes swiftly.
