The angel of the Lord came a second time, touched him, and said, “Get up and eat, or the journey will be too much for you.”


Now all of Mount Sinai was wrapped in smoke, because the Lord had descended upon it in fire; the smoke went up like the smoke of a kiln, while the whole mountain shook violently.


Moses entered the cloud and went up on the mountain. Moses was on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.


Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian; he led his flock beyond the wilderness and came to Mount Horeb, the mountain of God.


He was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.


The Lord said to Aaron, “Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.” So he went, and he met him at the mountain of God and kissed him.


At the end of ten days it was observed that they appeared better and fatter than all the young men who had been eating the royal rations.


He fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterward he was famished.


He was in the wilderness forty days, tested by Satan, and he was with the wild beasts, and the angels waited on him.


where for forty days he was tested by the devil. He ate nothing at all during those days, and when they were over he was famished.


but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” So I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.


Then I lay prostrate before the Lord as before, forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water because of all the sin you had committed, provoking the Lord by doing what was evil in his sight.
