You felt secure in your wickedness; you said, “No one sees me.” Your wisdom and your knowledge led you astray, and you said in your heart, “I am, and there is no one besides me.”


Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and shrewd in their own sight!


These invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods.


Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing on the neck of the disciples a yoke that neither our ancestors nor we have been able to bear?


that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what is strangled and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.”


But as for the gentiles who have become believers, we have sent a letter with our judgment that they should abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what is strangled and from sexual immorality.”


I want you to understand this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not claim to be wiser than you are: a hardening has come upon part of Israel until the full number of the gentiles has come in.


Live in harmony with one another; do not be arrogant, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are.


Why do you pass judgment on your brother or sister? Or you, why do you despise your brother or sister? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.


I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself, but it is unclean for anyone who considers it unclean.


Let us then pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.


Hold the conviction that you have as your own before God. Blessed are those who do not condemn themselves because of what they approve.


Those who eat must not despise those who abstain, and those who abstain must not pass judgment on those who eat, for God has welcomed them.


I myself feel confident about you, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, and able to instruct one another.


for in every way you have been enriched in him, in speech and knowledge of every kind—


I speak as to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say.


But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, out of consideration for the one who informed you and for the sake of conscience—


Brothers and sisters, do not be children in your thinking; rather, be infants in evil, but in thinking be adults.


Sober up, as you rightly ought to, and sin no more, for some people have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.


We are fools for the sake of Christ, but you are sensible people in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are honored, but we are dishonored.


But some of you, thinking that I am not coming to you, have become arrogant.


I have applied all this to Apollos and myself for your benefit, brothers and sisters, so that you may learn through us what “Not beyond what is written” means, so that none of you will be puffed up in favor of one against another.


And you are arrogant! Should you not rather have mourned, so that he who has done this would have been removed from among you?


Your boasting is not a good thing. Do you not know that a little yeast leavens all of the dough?


Anyone who claims to know something does not yet have the necessary knowledge,


Hence, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “no idol in the world really exists” and that “there is no God but one.”


It is not everyone, however, who has this knowledge. Since some have become so accustomed to idols until now, they still think of the food they eat as food offered to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.


from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body’s growth in building itself up in love.


Do not let anyone disqualify you, insisting on self-abasement and worship of angels, initiatory visions, puffed up without cause by a human way of thinking,


But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the people of Israel, so that they would eat food sacrificed to idols and engage in sexual immorality.


But I have this against you: you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet and is teaching and beguiling my servants to engage in sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.
