When the Ammonites saw that the Arameans fled, they likewise fled before Abishai and entered the city. Then Joab returned from fighting against the Ammonites and came to Jerusalem.

So Joab and his brother Abishai murdered Abner because he had killed their brother Asahel in the battle at Gibeon.


He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.


For when David was destroying Edom and Joab the commander of the army went up to bury the dead, he killed every male in Edom


He killed ten thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt and took Sela by storm; he called it Jokthe-el, which is its name to this day.


Now Abishai, the brother of Joab, was chief of the Thirty. With his spear he fought against three hundred and killed them and won a name beside the Three.


these also King David dedicated to the Lord, together with the silver and gold that he had carried off from all the nations, from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and Amalek.


He put garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became subject to David. And the Lord gave victory to David wherever he went.

Then David said to Ahimelech the Hittite and to Joab’s brother Abishai son of Zeruiah, “Who will go down with me into the camp to Saul?” Abishai said, “I will go down with you.”


Abishai said to David, “God has given your enemy into your hand today; now, therefore, let me pin him to the ground with one stroke of the spear; I will not strike him twice.”
