The burden of Moab. Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; because in the night Kir of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence:


My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall flee unto Zo´ar, a heifer of three years old: for by the mounting up of Luhith with weeping shall they go it up; for in the way of Horona´im they shall raise up a cry of destruction.


But now the Lord hath spoken, saying, Within three years, as the years of a hireling, and the glory of Moab shall be contemned, with all that great multitude; and the remnant shall be very small and feeble.


For in this mountain shall the hand of the Lord rest, and Moab shall be trodden down under him, even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill.


For thus saith the Lord God of Israel unto me; Take the winecup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.


Then took I the cup at the Lord's hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the Lord had sent me:


If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the Lord, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.


Considerest thou not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which the Lord hath chosen, he hath even cast them off? thus they have despised my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.


Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the Lord: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.


All ye that are about him, bemoan him; and all ye that know his name, say, How is the strong staff broken, and the beautiful rod!


And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he hath magnified himself against the Lord.


They that fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon because of the force: but a fire shall come forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and shall devour the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones.


Howl, O Heshbon, for A´i is spoiled: cry, ye daughters of Rabbah, gird you with sackcloth; lament, and run to and fro by the hedges; for their king shall go into captivity, and his priests and his princes together.


For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before them that seek their life: and I will bring evil upon them, even my fierce anger, saith the Lord; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them:


And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Ele-a´leh, and Kirjatha´im,
