And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Se´ir, the country of Edom.


Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.


Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Mid´i-an: and he led the flock to the back side of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.


And if thou offer a meat offering of thy firstfruits unto the Lord, thou shalt offer for the meat offering of thy firstfruits green ears of corn dried by the fire, even corn beaten out of full ears.


And Moses and Aaron went into the tabernacle of the congregation, and came out, and blessed the people: and the glory of the Lord appeared unto all the people.


And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.


Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Ka´desh–barne´a to see the land.


And when we departed from Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw by the way of the mountain of the Amorites, as the Lord our God commanded us; and we came to Ka´desh–barne´a.


And the Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in Se´ir, even unto Hormah.


Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the Lord spake unto me: and we compassed mount Se´ir many days.


And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Se´ir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore:


And when we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, which dwelt in Se´ir, through the way of the plain from Elath, and from E´zi-on–ge´ber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.


Likewise when the Lord sent you from Ka´desh–barne´a, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then ye rebelled against the commandment of the Lord your God, and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice.


Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephun´neh the Ken´ezite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the Lord said unto Moses the man of God concerning me and thee in Ka´desh–barne´a.
