And Jo´ab sent to Teko´a, and fetched thence a wise woman, and said unto her, I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on now mourning apparel, and anoint not thyself with oil, but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead:


And when he was come near unto her, the woman said, Art thou Jo´ab? And he answered, I am he. Then she said unto him, Hear the words of thine handmaid. And he answered, I do hear.

Now the name of the man was Nabal, and the name of his wife Ab´igail; and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb.
