And he cried against the altar in the word of the Lord, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the Lord; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josi´ah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men's bones shall be burnt upon thee.


And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jerobo´am, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin.


because of the sins of Jerobo´am which he sinned, and which he made Israel sin, by his provocation wherewith he provoked the Lord God of Israel to anger.


and will make thine house like the house of Jerobo´am the son of Nebat, and like the house of Ba´asha the son of Ahi´jah, for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me to anger, and made Israel to sin.


But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jerobo´am, which made Israel to sin.


And the king commanded Hilki´ah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the Lord all the vessels that were made for Ba´al, and for the grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto Beth–el.


And he brought out the grove from the house of the Lord, without Jerusalem, unto the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and stamped it small to powder, and cast the powder thereof upon the graves of the children of the people.


Nevertheless he cleaved unto the sins of Jerobo´am the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.


And so did he in the cities of Manas´seh, and E´phra-im, and Simeon, even unto Naph´tali, with their mattocks round about.


And when he had broken down the altars and the groves, and had beaten the graven images into powder, and cut down all the idols throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.


That, in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him, I will also visit the altars of Beth–el: and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.


And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the Lord with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ash´toreth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the Lord, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.


Then the children of Israel did put away Ba´alim and Ash´toreth, and served the Lord only.
