The Lord gave wisdom to Solomon as he had promised. And there was peace between Hiram and Solomon. These two kings made a treaty between themselves.


Solomon, you must understand that the Lord has chosen you to build his holy place—the temple. {\cf2\super [304]} Be strong and finish the job.”


David also said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and brave and finish this work. Don’t be afraid, because the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will help you until all the work is finished. He will not leave you. You will build the Lord’s temple. {\cf2\super [311]}


And help my son Solomon be true to you.\par Help him always obey your commands, laws, and rules.\par Help Solomon to do these things.\par and help him build this capital city\par that I have planned.”\par


I was in trouble.\par I called to the Lord for help.\par And he saved me!\par


I look up to the hills \{for help\}.\par But where will my help really come from?\par


I was very happy when people said,\par “Let us go to the Lord’s temple. {\cf2\super [611]} ”\par


God, I look up and pray to you.\par You sit as king in heaven.\par


What would have happened to us\par if the Lord had not been on our side?\par Tell me the answer, Israel.\par


People who trust in the Lord\par will be like Mount Zion.\par They will never be shaken.\par They will continue forever.\par


When the Lord makes us free again\par it will be like a dream!\par


God, help the king make wise decisions like you.\par And help the king’s son learn about your goodness.\par


God built his holy temple\par high on that mountain.\par God built his holy temple to last forever,\par just like the earth.\par


A person can make plans about the things that he wants to do. But it is the Lord who decides what will happen.


I also saw other things in this life {\cf2\super [36]} that were not fair: The fastest runner does not always win the race; the strongest army does not always win the battle; the wisest man does not always get the food he earns; the smartest man does not always get the wealth; and an educated person does not always get the praise he deserves. When the time comes, bad things happen to everyone!


“I, the Lord, will care for that garden.\par I will water the garden at the right time.\par I will guard that garden day and night.\par No one will hurt that garden.\par


The guards (prophets) are all blind.\par They don’t know what they are doing.\par They are like dogs that won’t bark.\par They lie on the ground and sleep.\par Oh, they love to sleep.\par


“Jerusalem, I put guards (prophets)\par on your walls.\par Those guards will not be silent.\par They will keep praying day and night.”\par


Lift up a flag against the walls of Babylon.\par Bring more guards.\par Put the watchmen in their places.\par Get ready for a secret attack.\par The Lord will do what he has planned.\par He will do what he said he would do\par against the people of Babylon.\par


One messenger follows another.\par Messenger follows messenger.\par They announce to the king of Babylon\par that his whole city has been captured.\par


And if Christ has never been raised, then the message we tell people is worth nothing. And your faith is worth nothing.


So the person that plants is not important, and the person that waters is not important. Only God is important, because he is the One who makes things grow.


Remember the Lord your God. Remember that he is the One who gives you power to do those things! Why does the Lord do this? Because he wants to keep the Agreement that he made with your ancestors [55] —just like he is doing today!


Someone told the king of Jericho, “Last night some men from Israel came to look for weaknesses in our country.”
