10 Balak became very angry at Balaam. Balak said to Balaam, “I called you to come and speak against my enemies. But you have blessed them. You have blessed them three times.

That law was written because those people didn’t give the people of Israel food and water. And those people had paid Balaam to say a curse {\cf2\super [79]} against the people of Israel. But our God changed that curse and made it a blessing for us.


Men will clap their hands\par as the evil person runs away.\par They will whistle at that evil person\par


\{God said,\} “Son of man, {\cf2\super [159]} clap your hands and speak to the people for me.


“Then I too will clap my hands.\par And I will stop showing my anger.\par I, the Lord, have spoken!”\par


“\{God said,\} ‘Now look! I will slam my hand down and stop you! I will punish you for cheating and killing people.


This is the message: A new nation of people has come out of Egypt. There are so many people that they cover the land. So, come and speak against these people. Then maybe I will be able to fight them and force them to leave my land.”


I will pay you very much if you will do what I ask. [283] Come and speak against these people for me.”


Come and help me. These people are too powerful for me. I know that you have great power. If you bless a person, then good things happen to him. And if you speak against a person, then bad things happen to him. So come and speak against these people. Maybe then I will be able to defeat them. Then I can force them to leave my country.”


Balak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? I brought you here to speak against my enemies. But you have only blessed them!”


Now leave and go home! I told you that I would give you a very good payment. But the Lord has caused you to lose your reward.”


“Israel is like a lion, curled up and lying down. Yes, they are like a young lion, and no one wants to wake him! Any person who blesses you will be blessed. And any person who speaks against you will have great troubles.”


This happened three times. Then the whole thing was taken back into the sky.


You must never try to make peace with the Ammonite or Moabite people. As long as you live, don’t be friendly to them.
