The Lord, the God of their ancestors, {\cf2\super [454]} sent prophets again and again to warn his people. The Lord did this because he felt sorry for them and for his temple. The Lord didn’t want to destroy them or his temple.


“I punished you people of Judah,\par but it did not help.\par You did not come back when you were punished.\par You killed with your swords the prophets that came to you.\par You were like a dangerous lion and you killed the prophets.”\par


“It will be bad for you teachers of the law and Pharisees. {\cf2\super [351]} You are hypocrites. {\cf2\super [352]} You build tombs for the prophets. {\cf2\super [353]} And you show honor to the graves of people that lived good lives.


You give proof that you are children (descendants) of those people that killed the prophets.


And think about what happens when the people of Israel (the Jews) offer sacrifices. {\cf2\super [71]} When they eat the meat that is sacrificed, they are sharing their meal with \{God at\} the altar, {\cf2\super [72]} aren’t they?


Our hope for you is strong. We know that you share in our sufferings. So we know that you also share in our comfort.
