“But as for us, the Lord is our God. We people of Judah have not refused to obey God! We have not left him! The priests who serve the Lord are Aaron’s sons. And the Levites help the priests serve the Lord.


{The Lord said to Moses,} “Tell your brother Aaron and his sons, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar, to come to you from the people of Israel. These men will serve me as priests.


You will be called, ‘The Lord’s Priests,’ ‘The Servants of our God.’ You will have the riches that come from all the nations on earth. And you will be proud you have it.


“I cry about all these things.\par My eyes, my eyes run down with water.\par There is no comforter near me.\par There is no person that can make me feel better.\par My children are like a wasteland.\par They are like that because the enemy won.”\par


The roads to Zion {\cf2\super [2]} are very sad.\par They are sad because no person comes to Zion for the holidays anymore.\par All of Zion’s gates have been destroyed.\par All of Zion’s priests groan.\par Zion’s young women\par have been taken away. {\cf2\super [3]} \par And all of this is a bitter sadness to Zion.\par


The Israelites will not give offerings of wine to the Lord. They will not offer sacrifices to him. Their sacrifices will be like food eaten at a funeral {\cf2\super [87]} —whoever eats it will become unclean. Their bread will not go into the Lord’s temple—they will have to eat that bread by themselves.


Priests, put on your clothes of sadness\par and cry loudly.\par Servants of the altar, {\cf2\super [5]} cry loudly.\par Servants of my God, you will sleep\par in your clothes of sadness.\par Why? Because there will be no more\par grain and drink offerings\par in God’s temple. {\cf2\super [6]} \par


Our food is gone. Joy and happiness are gone from the temple {\cf2\super [8]} of our God.


Who knows, maybe the Lord\par will change his mind.\par And maybe he will leave behind\par a blessing for you.\par Then you can give grain and drink offerings\par to the Lord your God.\par


Let the priests, the Lord’s servants,\par cry between the porch {\cf2\super [15]} and the altar. {\cf2\super [16]} \par All of those people should say these things:\par “Lord, have mercy on your people.\par Don’t let your people be put to shame.\par Don’t let other people tell jokes\par about your people.\par Don’t let people in other nations\par \{laugh at us and\} say,\par ‘Where is their God?’”\par
