Then maybe God will change and not do the things he had planned. Maybe God will change and not be angry. Then maybe we will not be punished.


So, my Master, the Lord All-Powerful, will tell the people to cry and be sad \{for their dead friends\}. People will shave their heads and wear clothes of sadness.


I cry and fast, {\cf2\super [402]} \par and they make fun of me for it.\par


\{God says,\}\par “Call for me when you have troubles!\par I will help you.\par And then you can honor me.”\par


After Elijah finished speaking, Ahab was very sad. He tore his clothes to show that he was sad. Then he put on special clothes of sadness. Ahab refused to eat. He slept in those special clothes. Ahab was very sad and upset.


David said, “While the baby was still living, I refused to eat and I cried because I thought, ‘Who knows? Maybe the Lord will feel sorry for me and let the baby live.’


Lord, people remember you\par when they are in trouble.\par People say quiet prayers to you\par when you punish them.\par


Then Nathan went home. And the Lord caused the baby boy that was born to David and Uriah’s wife to become very sick.


When I heard those things about the people of Jerusalem and about the wall, I was very upset. I sat down and cried. I was very sad. I fasted {\cf2\super [2]} and prayed to the God of Heaven for several days.


Then King Darius went back to his house. He did not eat that night. He did not want anyone to come and entertain him. The king could not sleep all night.


When Joshua heard about this, he tore his clothes {to show his sadness}. He bowed down on the ground before the Holy Box. [33] Joshua stayed there until evening. The leaders of Israel did the same thing. They also threw dirt on their heads {to show their sadness}.


Then I turned to God, my Master. I prayed to him and asked him for help. I did not eat any food, and I put on the clothes that showed I was sad. And I put dirt on my head.
