Then all the tribes of Israel came to David in Hebron, saying: Behold we are thy bone and thy flesh.


Now when David returned, after be slew the Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with timbrels of joy, and cornets.


0 And the princes of the Philistines went forth: and from the beginning of their going forth, David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul, and his name became very famous.


And Saul was exceeding angry, and this word was displeasing in his eyes, and he said: They have given David ten thousands, and to me they have given but a thousand; what can he have more but the kingdom?


3 Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him a captain over a thousand men, and he went out and came in before the people.


4 And David behaved wisely in all his ways, and the Lord was with him.


Then Jonathan called David and told him all these words: and Jonathan brought in David to Saul, and he was before him, as he had been yesterday and the day before.


If thy father look and inquire for me, thou shalt answer him: David asked me that he might run to Bethlehem his own city: because there are solemn sacrifices there for all his tribe.


4 So David was hid in the field, and the new moon came, and the king sat down to eat bread.
