saying, ‘It is too bad for the great city that was dressed in expensive linen and purple and scarlet [clothing], and that was adorned with gold, precious stones and pearl [jewelry]!


And the angel who spoke to me [See verse 9] had a golden measuring stick with which to measure the city, its gates and its wall.


The material for the city’s wall was jasper, and the city [itself] was made of pure gold, as clear as glass.


and down the middle of the city’s street. And on each side of the river stood the tree of life; it produced twelve crops of fruit, yielding a crop every month. And the leaves of the tree [served as medicine] for healing the nations.


And there was an ocean, as crystal-clear as glass, in front of the throne. And at the center, surrounding the throne were four living beings, covered with eyes in the front and back of them. [Note: In view of Isa. 6:1-3 and especially Eze. 10:20ff, these “living beings” appear to be some special order of heavenly beings who inhabit the presence of God].
