Mark 10:32 - An Understandable Version (2005 edition)

32 Now Jesus and His disciples were [traveling] along the road, going up to Jerusalem, with Jesus moving on ahead of the others. The disciples were amazed and they followed [behind Him] fearfully. [Note: From the context, it appears their amazement was due to His eagerness to enter Jerusalem in spite of the imminent danger they felt awaited Him there]. He took the twelve apostles aside and began telling them about the things that were going to happen to Him.

About that time Jesus said [in prayer], “I thank you, O, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things [i.e., the significance of Jesus’ words and works] from those who [thought they] were wise and intelligent and have [instead] revealed them to people who are child-like.


He replied, “You disciples are being given an understanding of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but the crowds of people are not.


And all the people [in the synagogue] were so amazed they began asking one another, “What is this, some new teaching? And it is spoken with such authority! He even orders evil spirits, and they obey him.”


And He did not speak to them [i.e., concerning the kingdom] without using a parable, but He explained everything to His own disciples privately.


Then Jesus turned to the disciples and said privately, “The eyes that see the things you see are [truly] blessed,


And when Jesus had said this, He went on ahead [of His disciples. See Matt. 21:1] up to Jerusalem.


And it happened when the time came for Jesus to be taken up [to heaven] that He firmly determined to go to Jerusalem.


Then Thomas, which means, “The Twin,” said to his fellow disciples, “Let us go too, so we can die with Him.” [i.e., by being stoned to death with Jesus. See 11:8].


The disciples replied to Him, “The Jews [there] have just been trying to stone you, and you are going back again?”
