Truly I tell you, whoever does not welcome the kingdom of God as a little child does, that person will by no means enter it.”


But the man had a sad look on his face when he heard these words, and went away sorrowful, for he had many possessions.


And when He had looked around at them with righteous indignation, being grieved over their stubbornness, He said to the man, “Reach out your hand.” And when he reached it out, his hand was restored [to normal use].


Then He looked around to see who had done this [i.e., touched Him and received healing].


Now Jesus looked at him and said, “How difficult [it is] for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!


Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I tell you, a person cannot enter the kingdom of God unless he is born out of water and the Holy Spirit.


Now consider how you were when you were called, brothers. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were from prominent families.


Listen, my dearly loved brothers; did not God choose those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be wealthy in faith and to inherit the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?


You people who have become unfaithful to God, do you not know that being [intimate] friends with the world [of sin] means hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever determines to be an [intimate] friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.


For in this way, you will be provided with a rich welcome into the never ending kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ [i.e., in heaven].
