The person who is not on my side is [actually] against me. And the person who does not gather [people to me] is [actually] driving them away [from me].


When Jesus and His disciples came to Capernaum, the collectors of the [Temple] tax [Note: This was the annual tax used for meeting the expenses of the Temple service and consisted of two twelve hour days’ worth of a farm laborer’s pay, or about $216 in 2005] came to Peter and said, “Does not your teacher [also] pay the [Temple] tax?”


And when Peter said, “From strangers,” Jesus added, “Therefore, children are free [from such taxation].


[Then] John [the apostle] said to Him, “Teacher, we saw someone driving out evil spirits by using your name, so we told him to stop doing it, because he was not following [You] with us.”


Truly I tell you, whoever will give you [even] a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his [temporal or eternal] reward.


The person who is not on my side is [actually] against me. And the person who does not gather [people to me] is [actually] driving them away [from me].


No person can serve two masters, for he will either hate the one and love the other, or else he will cling to the one [i.e., as a close friend] and look down on the other. You cannot serve God and material things [at the same time].”


Therefore, I am telling you that no one who speaks under the influence of the Holy Spirit of God says, “Jesus is cursed!” And no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except under the influence of the Holy Spirit.
