So, he gathered all the leading priests and experts in the Law of Moses from among the people and asked them where the Christ [child] was to be born.


Then early [the next] morning Jesus went into the Temple again. All the people gathered around Him and He sat down and began teaching them.


They said to Jesus, “This woman was caught in the very act of sexual immorality.


And when they heard [what He had said], they [all] left, one at a time, beginning with the oldest men. So, Jesus was left alone with the woman [still standing] there where she was.


[So], they brought the man, who had been blind, to the Pharisees.


And when these men had Peter and John brought before them, they asked, “By whose authority or in what name have you done this thing [i.e., healed the crippled man]?”


So, if she lives with another man while her husband is still alive, she will be called an adulteress [i.e., a person who is sexually unfaithful to their mate]. But if her husband dies, she is legally free to marry another man without committing adultery.
