Addiction and bad habits can be so destructive. Think about it, addiction is clinging to something—a behavior, a substance, an activity, even a person—that's actually harming you. So many of us struggle with these things, feeling trapped by a vice or an addiction. Sometimes, we feel like it's because of our past.
But here's the truth: in God, we're free. Christ set us free from all of that and forgave our sins. If you keep dwelling on the past, those chains can really hold you back. Sometimes, these struggles can even stem from negative spiritual influences, finding a foothold and coming to light when we unknowingly open a door, giving the enemy a legal right to step in.
You have the power to let go of what's binding you. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas of bondage you need to address. Receive God's forgiveness and His healing. He's there for you.
I pray that we all find freedom from anything that's hurting us and holding us back. Just like it says in John 8:36, "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."
On that day, God will remove the burden from your shoulder and destroy the yoke on your neck. He has gone up from Samaria,
I have the freedom to do anything, but not everything is helpful. I have the freedom to do anything, but I won’t be controlled by anything.
So then, if anyone is in Christ, that person is part of the new creation. The old things have gone away, and look, new things have arrived!
No temptation has seized you that isn’t common for people. But God is faithful. He won’t allow you to be tempted beyond your abilities. Instead, with the temptation, God will also supply a way out so that you will be able to endure it.
Instead, dress yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ, and don’t plan to indulge your selfish desires.
The LORD is my solid rock, my fortress, my rescuer. My God is my rock— I take refuge in him!— he’s my shield, my salvation’s strength, my place of safety.
Stay alert and pray so that you won’t give in to temptation. The spirit is eager, but the flesh is weak.”
The LORD is my shepherd. I lack nothing. He lets me rest in grassy meadows; he leads me to restful waters;he keeps me alive. He guides me in proper paths for the sake of his good name.Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no danger because you are with me. Your rod and your staff— they protect me.
Everything that is in the world—the craving for whatever the body feels, the craving for whatever the eyes see and the arrogant pride in one’s possessions—is not of the Father but is of the world.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; don’t rely on your own intelligence.Know him in all your paths, and he will keep your ways straight.
When the righteous cry out, the LORD listens; he delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he saves those whose spirits are crushed.
because, my Lord, you are good and forgiving, full of faithful love for all those who cry out to you.
Don’t fear, because I am with you; don’t be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will surely help you; I will hold you with my righteous strong hand.
Living in the Most High’s shelter, camping in the Almighty’s shade, I say to the LORD, “You are my refuge, my stronghold! You are my God—the one I trust!”
Let my whole being bless the LORD and never forget all his good deeds:how God forgives all your sins, heals all your sickness, saves your life from the pit, crowns you with faithful love and compassion,
So they cried out to the LORD in their distress, and God saved them from their desperate circumstances.God brought them out from the darkness and deep gloom; he shattered their chains.
Can a man scoop fire into his lap and his clothes not get burned? If a man walks on hot coals, don’t his feet get burned?
Listen, my child, and be wise! Keep your mind straight on the path.Don’t hang out with those who get drunk on wine or those who eat too much meat, because drunks and gluttons will be impoverished; their stupor will clothe them in rags.
Who is suffering? Who is uneasy? Who has arguments? Who has complaints? Who has unnecessary wounds? Who has glazed eyes?—those who linger over wine; those who go looking for mixed wine.Don’t look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, going down smoothly. In the end, it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper.
Those with sound thoughts you will keep in peace, in peace because they trust in you.Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD is a rock for all ages.
giving power to the tired and reviving the exhausted.Youths will become tired and weary, young men will certainly stumble;but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength; they will fly up on wings like eagles; they will run and not be tired; they will walk and not be weary.
I am the LORD your God, who grasps your strong hand, who says to you, Don’t fear; I will help you.
But now, says the LORD— the one who created you, Jacob, the one who formed you, Israel: Don’t fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; when through the rivers, they won’t sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you won’t be scorched and flame won’t burn you.
I swept away your rebellions like a cloud, and your sins like fog. Return to me, because I have redeemed you.
He was pierced because of our rebellions and crushed because of our crimes. He bore the punishment that made us whole; by his wounds we are healed.
Isn’t this the fast I choose: releasing wicked restraints, untying the ropes of a yoke, setting free the mistreated, and breaking every yoke?
Heal me, LORD, and I’ll be healed. Save me and I’ll be saved, for you are my heart’s desire.
I know the plans I have in mind for you, declares the LORD; they are plans for peace, not disaster, to give you a future filled with hope.
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you. I will remove your stony heart from your body and replace it with a living one,and I will give you my spirit so that you may walk according to my regulations and carefully observe my case laws.
Do not rejoice over me, my enemy, because when I fall, I will rise; if I sit in darkness, the LORD is my light.
Instead, desire first and foremost God’s kingdom and God’s righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
“Come to me, all you who are struggling hard and carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.Put on my yoke, and learn from me. I’m gentle and humble. And you will find rest for yourselves. My yoke is easy to bear, and my burden is light.”
He responded, “Daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace, healed from your disease.”
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me. He has sent me to preach good news to the poor, to proclaim release to the prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, to liberate the oppressed,
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him won’t perish but will have eternal life.God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through him.
Jesus spoke to the people again, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me won’t walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
The thief enters only to steal, kill, and destroy. I came so that they could have life—indeed, so that they could live life to the fullest.
Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give you. I give to you not as the world gives. Don’t be troubled or afraid.
I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, then you will produce much fruit. Without me, you can’t do anything.
I’ve said these things to you so that you will have peace in me. In the world you have distress. But be encouraged! I have conquered the world.”
This is what we know: the person that we used to be was crucified with him in order to get rid of the corpse that had been controlled by sin. That way we wouldn’t be slaves to sin anymore,
So then, don’t let sin rule your body, so that you do what it wants.Don’t offer parts of your body to sin, to be used as weapons to do wrong. Instead, present yourselves to God as people who have been brought back to life from the dead, and offer all the parts of your body to God to be used as weapons to do right.
Don’t you know that if you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, that you are slaves of the one whom you obey? That’s true whether you serve as slaves of sin, which leads to death, or as slaves of the kind of obedience that leads to righteousness. But thank God that although you used to be slaves of sin, you gave wholehearted obedience to the teaching that was handed down to you, which provides a pattern. Now that you have been set free from sin, you have become slaves of righteousness.
So now there isn’t any condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.
The attitude that comes from selfishness leads to death, but the attitude that comes from the Spirit leads to life and peace.
If the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, the one who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your human bodies also, through his Spirit that lives in you.
We know that God works all things together for good for the ones who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.
So, brothers and sisters, because of God’s mercies, I encourage you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice that is holy and pleasing to God. This is your appropriate priestly service.Don’t be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you can figure out what God’s will is—what is good and pleasing and mature.
The night is almost over, and the day is near. So let’s get rid of the actions that belong to the darkness and put on the weapons of light.Let’s behave appropriately as people who live in the day, not in partying and getting drunk, not in sleeping around and obscene behavior, not in fighting and obsession.Instead, dress yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ, and don’t plan to indulge your selfish desires.
Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you? Don’t you know that you have the Holy Spirit from God, and you don’t belong to yourselves? You have been bought and paid for, so honor God with your body.
What agreement can there be between God’s temple and idols? Because we are the temple of the living God. Just as God said, “I live with them, and I will move among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”Therefore, “come out from among them and be separated, says the Lord. Don’t touch what is unclean. Then I will welcome you.”“I will be a father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty”.
Although we live in the world, we don’t fight our battles with human methods. Our weapons that we fight with aren’t human, but instead they are powered by God for the destruction of fortresses. They destroy arguments, and every defense that is raised up to oppose the knowledge of God. They capture every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. And the life that I now live in my body, I live by faith, indeed, by the faithfulness of God’s Son, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Christ has set us free for freedom. Therefore, stand firm and don’t submit to the bondage of slavery again.
The actions that are produced by selfish motives are obvious, since they include sexual immorality, moral corruption, doing whatever feels good, idolatry, drug use and casting spells, hate, fighting, obsession, losing your temper, competitive opposition, conflict, selfishness, group rivalry, jealousy, drunkenness, partying, and other things like that. I warn you as I have already warned you, that those who do these kinds of things won’t inherit God’s kingdom.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against things like this.
change the former way of life that was part of the person you once were, corrupted by deceitful desires.Instead, renew the thinking in your mind by the Spiritand clothe yourself with the new person created according to God’s image in justice and true holiness.
You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord, so live your life as children of light.
Don’t get drunk on wine, which produces depravity. Instead, be filled with the Spirit in the following ways:
Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and his powerful strength.Put on God’s armor so that you can make a stand against the tricks of the devil.
I’m sure about this: the one who started a good work in you will stay with you to complete the job by the day of Christ Jesus.
God is the one who enables you both to want and to actually live out his good purposes.
Don’t be anxious about anything; rather, bring up all of your requests to God in your prayers and petitions, along with giving thanks. Then the peace of God that exceeds all understanding will keep your hearts and minds safe in Christ Jesus.
From now on, brothers and sisters, if anything is excellent and if anything is admirable, focus your thoughts on these things: all that is true, all that is holy, all that is just, all that is pure, all that is lovely, and all that is worthy of praise.
He rescued us from the control of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. He set us free through the Son and forgave our sins.
So put to death the parts of your life that belong to the earth, such as sexual immorality, moral corruption, lust, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry).
and put on the new nature, which is renewed in knowledge by conforming to the image of the one who created it.But now set aside these things, such as anger, rage, malice, slander, and obscene language.Don’t lie to each other. Take off the old human nature with its practices
God’s will is that your lives are dedicated to him. This means that you stay away from sexual immoralityand learn how to control your own body in a pure and respectable way.
So then, let’s not sleep like the others, but let’s stay awake and stay sober.People who sleep sleep at night, and people who get drunk get drunk at night.Since we belong to the day, let’s stay sober, wearing faithfulness and love as a piece of armor that protects our body and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
Avoid every kind of evil. Now, may the God of peace himself cause you to be completely dedicated to him; and may your spirit, soul, and body be kept intact and blameless at our Lord Jesus Christ’s coming.
Actually, godliness is a great source of profit when it is combined with being happy with what you already have.
God didn’t give us a spirit that is timid but one that is powerful, loving, and self-controlled.
Run away from adolescent cravings. Instead, pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace together with those who confess the Lord with a clean heart.
It educates us so that we can live sensible, ethical, and godly lives right now by rejecting ungodly lives and the desires of this world.
He’s able to help those who are being tempted, since he himself experienced suffering when he was tempted.
because we don’t have a high priest who can’t sympathize with our weaknesses but instead one who was tempted in every way that we are, except without sin. Finally, let’s draw near to the throne of favor with confidence so that we can receive mercy and find grace when we need help.
Let’s hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, because the one who made the promises is reliable.
So then, with endurance, let’s also run the race that is laid out in front of us, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us. Let’s throw off any extra baggage, get rid of the sin that trips us up,and fix our eyes on Jesus, faith’s pioneer and perfecter. He endured the cross, ignoring the shame, for the sake of the joy that was laid out in front of him, and sat down at the right side of God’s throne.
But anyone who needs wisdom should ask God, whose very nature is to give to everyone without a second thought, without keeping score. Wisdom will certainly be given to those who ask.
Those who stand firm during testing are blessed. They are tried and true. They will receive the life God has promised to those who love him as their reward.
No one who is tested should say, “God is tempting me!” This is because God is not tempted by any form of evil, nor does he tempt anyone.Everyone is tempted by their own cravings; they are lured away and enticed by them.Once those cravings conceive, they give birth to sin; and when sin grows up, it gives birth to death.
Therefore, once you have your minds ready for action and you are thinking clearly, place your hope completely on the grace that will be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed.Don’t be conformed to your former desires, those that shaped you when you were ignorant. But, as obedient children, you must be holy in every aspect of your lives, just as the one who called you is holy.It is written, “You will be holy, because I am holy.”
Be clearheaded. Keep alert. Your accuser, the devil, is on the prowl like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.Resist him, standing firm in the faith. Do so in the knowledge that your fellow believers are enduring the same suffering throughout the world.
But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from everything we’ve done wrong.
