104 Bible Verses about Addiction

104 Bible Verses about Addiction

Vices have serious consequences, not just physically, but spiritually too. They can really tie you down. You might think it's impossible to break free from whatever's got a hold of you, but I want to share the best antidote there is: the blood of Jesus.

When you come to Him and ask for His help, He's faithful and just to strengthen you in your weaknesses. It's not about your own power, because you can't do it on your own. It's about Christ's transforming power working in you.

So don't give up. As long as you're still breathing, there's hope. Jesus can change your life and make you a new person if you just ask Him and seek Him. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

As the Bible says in Isaiah 5:11 (NIV): "Woe to those who rise early in the morning to run after their drinks, who stay up late at night till they are inflamed with wine."

Hebrews 12:1-2

Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses  surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance  the race that lies before us,For they disciplined us for a short time based on what seemed good to them, but he does it for our benefit, so that we can share his holiness. No discipline seems enjoyable at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it yields the peaceful fruit  of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore, strengthen your tired hands and weakened knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated  but healed instead. Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness   #– #without it no one will see the Lord.Make sure that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no root of bitterness springs up, causing trouble and defiling many. And make sure that there isn’t any immoral  or irreverent  person like Esau, who sold his birthright in exchange for a single meal. For you know that later, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, even though he sought it with tears, because he didn’t find any opportunity for repentance. For you have not come to what could be touched, to a blazing fire, to darkness, gloom, and storm,to the blast of a trumpet, and the sound of words. Those who heard it begged that not another word be spoken to them, keeping our eyes on Jesus,  the pioneer and perfecter  of our faith. For the joy that lay before him,  he endured the cross, despising the shame,  and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

1 Peter 4:1-3

Therefore, since Christ suffered  in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same understanding   #– #because the one who suffers in the flesh is finished  with sin   #– #Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others,  as good stewards of the varied grace of God.If anyone speaks, let it be as one who speaks God’s words; if anyone serves, let it be from the strength God provides,  so that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ in everything. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. Dear friends, don’t be surprised when the fiery ordeal comes among you to test you, as if something unusual were happening to you.Instead, rejoice as you share in the sufferings of Christ,  so that you may also rejoice with great joy when his glory is revealed. If you are ridiculed for the name of Christ,  you are blessed, because the Spirit  of glory and of God  rests on you.Let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or a meddler. But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed but let him glorify God in having that name. For the time has come for judgement  to begin with God’s household,  and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God? And if a righteous person is saved with difficulty, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?   , So then, let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust themselves  to a faithful Creator while doing what is good.in order to live the remaining time in the flesh no longer for human desires, but for God’s will. For there has already been enough time spent in doing what the Gentiles choose to do: carrying on in unrestrained behaviour, evil desires,  drunkenness, orgies,  carousing, and lawless idolatry.

Romans 8:1-2

Therefore, there is now no condemnation  for those in  Christ Jesus,  ,Now if Christ is in you,  the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit  gives life  because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead  lives in you, then he who raised Christ from the dead will also bring your mortal bodies to life through  his Spirit who lives in you. So then, brothers and sisters, we are not bound to the flesh to live according to the flesh, because if you live according to the flesh, you are going to die. But if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body,  you will live. For all those led by God’s Spirit  are God’s sons. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear.  Instead, you received the Spirit of adoption,  by whom we cry out, ‘Abba,  Father! ’The Spirit himself testifies together with our spirit  that we are God’s children, and if children, also heirs   #– #heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ #– #if indeed we suffer with him  so that we may also be glorified with him. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing  with the glory  that is going to be revealed to us.For the creation eagerly waits with anticipation  for God’s sons  to be revealed.because the law  of the Spirit of life  in Christ Jesus has set you  free from the law  of sin and death.

For although we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh, since the weapons of our warfare  are not of the flesh, but are powerful  through God for the demolition of strongholds. Prayer

God of immeasurable greatness, glory, and majesty, you are beyond compare, worthy of all adoration and praise. Holy Father, I come to you, humbled and recognizing that only you have the power to renew and transform my life for good, forever. I ask you to free me from every chain, every yoke, every entanglement of wickedness that binds me to these vices. Give me the strength to face this struggle that is causing such pain and hardship in my life and the lives of my family. Help me to be vigilant, for your word tells us that our adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Holy Spirit, govern my mind and body. Give me the strength to overcome temptation and to distance myself from those who encourage these harmful habits. Teach me to walk in the Spirit and not to gratify the desires of the flesh. Root out these vices from my mind and body, once and for all, so that I may build a relationship with you. For my victory comes only from you, not by might, nor by power, but by your Holy Spirit. I renounce all addiction to these vices and pray that the presence of your Holy Spirit will descend upon my life, bringing renewal and restoration to my entire being. In Jesus' name, Amen.
