Vices have serious consequences, not just physically, but spiritually too. They can really tie you down. You might think it's impossible to break free from whatever's got a hold of you, but I want to share the best antidote there is: the blood of Jesus.

When you come to Him and ask for His help, He's faithful and just to strengthen you in your weaknesses. It's not about your own power, because you can't do it on your own. It's about Christ's transforming power working in you.

So don't give up. As long as you're still breathing, there's hope. Jesus can change your life and make you a new person if you just ask Him and seek Him. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

As the Bible says in Isaiah 5:11 (NIV): "Woe to those who rise early in the morning to run after their drinks, who stay up late at night till they are inflamed with wine."

Some of you say, “We can do anything we want to.” But I tell you not everything is good for us. So I refuse to let anything have power over me.

Surrender to God! Resist the devil, and he will run from you.

Christ has set us free! This means we are really free. Now hold on to your freedom and don't ever become slaves of the Law again.

Stay awake and pray that you won't be tested. You want to do what is right, but you are weak.”

Be on your guard and stay awake. Your enemy, the devil, is like a roaring lion, sneaking around to find someone to attack.

Keep us from being tempted and protect us from evil.

Don't be a heavy drinker or stuff yourself with food.It will make you feel drowsy, and you will end up poor with only rags to wear.

Don't fool yourselves. Bad friends will destroy you.

Who is always in trouble? Who argues and fights? Who has cuts and bruises? Whose eyes are red?Don't be greedy for all of that fancy food! It may not be so tasty.Everyone who stays up late, having just one more drink.Don't even look at that colorful stuff bubbling up in the glass! It goes down so easily,but later it bites like a poisonous snake.

Jesus replied: I tell you for certain that anyone who sins is a slave of sin!

If we shared in Jesus' death by being baptized, we will be raised to life with him.We know that the persons we used to be were nailed to the cross with Jesus. This was done, so our sinful bodies would no longer be the slaves of sin.

If the Son gives you freedom, you are free!

You are tempted in the same way that everyone else is tempted. But God can be trusted not to let you be tempted too much, and he will show you how to escape from your temptations.

God has shown us undeserved grace by coming to save all people.He taught us to give up our wicked ways and our worldly desires and to live decent and honest lives in this world.

Let the Lord Jesus Christ be as near to you as the clothes you wear. Then you won't try to satisfy your selfish desires.

It isn't smart to get drunk! Drinking makes a fool of you and leads to fights.

People's desires make them give in to immoral ways, filthy thoughts, and shameful deeds.I, Paul, promise you that Christ won't do you any good if you get circumcised.They worship idols, practice witchcraft, hate others, and are hard to get along with. People become jealous, angry, and selfish. They not only argue and cause trouble, but they areenvious. They get drunk, carry on at wild parties, and do other evil things as well. I told you before, and I am telling you again: No one who does these things will share in the blessings of God's kingdom.

Losing self-control leaves you as helpless as a city without a wall.

Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness.

Kings and leaders should not get drunk or even want to drink.Drinking makes you forget your responsibilities, and you mistreat the poor.

I wanted to find out what was best for us during the short time we have on this earth. So I decided to make myself happy with wine and find out what it means to be foolish, without really being foolish myself.

You are in for trouble! You get up early to start drinking, and you keep it up late into the night.

And you are great at drinking and mixing drinks. But you are in for trouble.

Priests and prophets stumble because they are drunk. Their minds are too confused to receive God's messages or give honest decisions.Their tables are covered, completely covered, with their stinking vomit.

How can anyone be stupid enough to trust something that can be burned to ashes? No one can save themselves like that. Don't they realize that the idols they hold in their hands are not really gods?

Doomed! You're doomed! At night you lie in bed, making evil plans. And when morning comes, you do what you've planned because you have the power.

You cannot be the slave of two masters! You will like one more than the other or be more loyal to one than the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest.Take the yoke I give you. Put it on your shoulders and learn from me. I am gentle and humble, and you will find rest.to ask Jesus, “Are you the one we should be looking for? Or must we wait for someone else?”This yoke is easy to bear, and this burden is light.

But they start worrying about the needs of this life. They are fooled by the desire to get rich and to have all kinds of other things. So the message gets choked out, and they never produce anything.

Then he said to the crowd, “Don't be greedy! Owning a lot of things won't make your life safe.”

I am using these everyday examples, because in some ways you are still weak. You used to let the different parts of your body be slaves of your evil thoughts. But now you must make every part of your body serve God, so that you will belong completely to him.

I know that my selfish desires won't let me do anything that is good. Even when I want to do right, I cannot.Instead of doing what I know is right, I do wrong.For example, the Law says that a man's wife must remain his wife as long as he lives. But once her husband is dead, she is freeAnd so, if I don't do what I know is right, I am no longer the one doing these evil things. The sin that lives in me is what does them.

Dear friends, God is good. So I beg you to offer your bodies to him as a living sacrifice, pure and pleasing. That's the most sensible way to serve God.Love each other as brothers and sisters and honor others more than you do yourself.Never give up. Eagerly follow the Holy Spirit and serve the Lord.Let your hope make you glad. Be patient in time of trouble and never stop praying.Take care of God's needy people and welcome strangers into your home.Ask God to bless everyone who mistreats you. Ask him to bless them and not to curse them.When others are happy, be happy with them, and when they are sad, be sad.Be friendly with everyone. Don't be proud and feel that you know more than others. Make friends with ordinary people.Don't mistreat someone who has mistreated you. But try to earn the respect of others,and do your best to live at peace with everyone.Dear friends, don't try to get even. Let God take revenge. All of you surely know you are God's temple and his Spirit lives in you.Together you are God's holy temple, and God will destroy anyone who destroys his temple.

You surely know that your body is a temple where the Holy Spirit lives. The Spirit is in you and is a gift from God. You are no longer your own.Don't you know that God's people will judge the world? And if you are going to judge the world, can't you settle small problems?God paid a great price for you. So use your body to honor God.

You know that many runners enter a race, and only one of them wins the prize. So run to win!Athletes work hard to win a crown that cannot last, but we do it for a crown that will last forever.I don't run without a goal. And I don't box by beating my fists in the air.I keep my body under control and make it my slave, so I won't lose out after telling the good news to others.

Some of you say, “We can do whatever we want to!” But I tell you not everything may be good or helpful.

Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new.

Do idols belong in the temple of God? We are the temple of the living God, as God himself says, “I will live with these people and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”The Lord also says, “Leave them and stay away! Don't touch anything that isn't clean. Then I will welcome youand be your Father. You will be my sons and my daughters, as surely as I am God, the All-Powerful.”

My friends, God has made us these promises. So we should stay away from everything that keeps our bodies and spirits from being clean. We should honor God and try to be completely like him.

My friends, you were chosen to be free. So don't use your freedom as an excuse to do anything you want. Use it as an opportunity to serve each other with love.

If you are guided by the Spirit, you won't obey your selfish desires.The Spirit and your desires are enemies of each other. They are always fighting each other and keeping you from doing what you feel you should.

God's Spirit makes us loving, happy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful,gentle, and self-controlled. There is no law against behaving in any of these ways.

You were told that your foolish desires will destroy you and that you must give up your old way of life with all its bad habits.Let the Spirit change your way of thinkingand make you into a new person. You were created to be like God, and so you must please him and be truly holy.

Don't destroy yourself by getting drunk, but let the Spirit fill your life.

But now you must stop doing such things. You must quit being angry, hateful, and evil. You must no longer say insulting or cruel things about others.

Others may sleep, but we should stay awake and be alert.People sleep during the night, and some even get drunk.But we belong to the day. So we must stay sober and let our faith and love be like a suit of armor. Our firm hope that we will be saved is our helmet.

Try to live at peace with everyone! Live a clean life. If you don't, you will never see the Lord.

Don't blame God when you are tempted! God cannot be tempted by evil, and he doesn't use evil to tempt others.We are tempted by our own desires that drag us off and trap us.Our desires make us sin, and when sin is finished with us, it leaves us dead.

My dear friends, you should be quick to listen and slow to speak or to get angry.My friends, be glad, even if you have a lot of trouble.If you are angry, you cannot do any of the good things God wants done.You must stop doing anything immoral or evil. Instead be humble and accept the message planted in you to save you.

Be alert and think straight. Put all your hope in how God will treat you with undeserved grace when Jesus Christ appears.Behave like obedient children. Don't let your lives be controlled by your desires, as they used to be.Always live as God's holy people should, because God is the one who chose you, and he is holy.

Dear friends, you are foreigners and strangers on this earth. So I beg you not to surrender to those desires that fight against you.

Christ suffered here on earth. Now you must be ready to suffer as he did, because suffering shows that you have stopped sinning.Each of you has been blessed with one of God's many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well.If you have the gift of speaking, preach God's message. If you have the gift of helping others, do it with the strength that God supplies. Everything should be done in a way that will bring honor to God because of Jesus Christ, who is glorious and powerful forever. Amen.Dear friends, don't be surprised or shocked that you are going through testing that is like walking through fire.Be glad for the chance to suffer as Christ suffered. It will prepare you for even greater happiness when he makes his glorious return.Count it a blessing when you suffer for being a Christian. This shows that God's glorious Spirit is with you.But you deserve to suffer if you are a murderer, a thief, a crook, or a busybody.Don't be ashamed to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God that you belong to him.God has already begun judging his own people. And if his judgment begins with us, imagine how terrible it will be for those who refuse to obey his message. The Scriptures say,“If good people barely escape, what will happen to sinners and to others who don't respect God?”If you suffer for obeying God, you must have complete faith in your faithful Creator and keep on doing right.It means you have turned from your own desires and want to obey God for the rest of your life.You have already lived long enough like people who don't know God. Don't love the world or anything that belongs to the world. If you love the world, you cannot love the Father.Our foolish pride comes from this world, and so do our selfish desires and our desire to have everything we see. None of this comes from the Father.The world and the desires it causes are disappearing. But if we obey God, we will live forever.

Anyone who keeps on sinning belongs to the devil. He has sinned from the beginning, but the Son of God came to destroy all that he has done.

Every child of God can defeat the world, and our faith is what gives us this victory.No one can defeat the world without having faith in Jesus as the Son of God.

Carefully guard your thoughts because they are the source of true life.

Those people succeed in everything they do.

You, Lord, are my shepherd. I will never be in need.You let me rest in fields of green grass. You lead me to streams of peaceful water,and you refresh my life. You are true to your name, and you lead me along the right paths.

When his people pray for help, he listens and rescues them from their troubles.The Lord is there to rescue all who are discouraged and have given up hope.

Create pure thoughts in me and make me faithful again.Don't chase me away from you or take your Holy Spirit away from me.Make me as happy as you did when you saved me; make me want to obey!

You were in serious trouble, but you prayed to the Lord, and he rescued you.He brought you out of the deepest darkness and broke your chains.

Don't be afraid. I am with you. Don't tremble with fear. I am your God. I will make you strong, as I protect you with my arm and give you victories.

I'll tell you what it really means to worship the Lord. Remove the chains of prisoners who are bound unjustly. Free those who are abused!

I will bless you with a future filled with hope—a future of success, not of suffering.

I will take away your stubborn heart and give you a new heart and a desire to be faithful. You will have only pure thoughts,because I will put my Spirit in you and make you eager to obey my laws and teachings.

God blesses those people who want to obey him more than to eat or drink. They will be given what they want!

If your right eye causes you to sin, poke it out and throw it away. It is better to lose one part of your body, than for your whole body to end up in hell.God blesses those people who depend only on him. They belong to the kingdom of heaven! If your right hand causes you to sin, chop it off and throw it away! It is better to lose one part of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

So you are alive because God has accepted you, even though your bodies must die because of your sins.Yet God raised Jesus to life! God's Spirit now lives in you, and he will raise you to life by his Spirit. My dear friends, we must not live to satisfy our desires.If you do, you will die. But you will live, if by the help of God's Spirit you say “No” to your desires.Only those people who are led by God's Spirit are his children.God's Spirit doesn't make us slaves who are afraid of him. Instead, we become his children and call him our Father.God's Spirit makes us sure that we are his children.His Spirit lets us know that together with Christ we will be given what God has promised. We will also share in the glory of Christ, because we have suffered with him.I am sure what we are suffering now cannot compare with the glory that will be shown to us.In fact, all creation is eagerly waiting for God to show who his children are.The Holy Spirit will give you life that comes from Christ Jesus and will set you free from sin and death.

In everything we have won more than a victory because of Christ who loves us.

My friends, you must keep away from idols.

We live in this world, but we don't act like its peopleor fight our battles with the weapons of this world. Instead, we use God's power that can destroy fortresses. We destroy argumentsand every bit of pride that keeps anyone from knowing God. We capture people's thoughts and make them obey Christ.

Finally, let the mighty strength of the Lord make you strong.Put on all the armor that God gives, so you can defend yourself against the devil's tricks.

God is the one who began this good work in you, and I am certain that he won't stop before it is complete on the day that Christ Jesus returns.

Don't worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God.Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel.

I pray that God will take care of all your needs with the wonderful blessings that come from Christ Jesus!

Jesus understands every weakness of ours, because he was tempted in every way that we are. But he did not sin!So whenever we are in need, we should come bravely before the throne of our merciful God. There we will be treated with undeserved grace, and we will find help.

We must hold tightly to the hope we say is ours. After all, we can trust the one who made the agreement with us.

If you have faith when you pray for sick people, they will get well. The Lord will heal them, and if they have sinned, he will forgive them.If you have sinned, you should tell each other what you have done. Then you can pray for one another and be healed. The prayer of an innocent person is powerful, and it can help a lot.
