Vices have serious consequences, not just physically, but spiritually too. They can really tie you down. You might think it's impossible to break free from whatever's got a hold of you, but I want to share the best antidote there is: the blood of Jesus.
When you come to Him and ask for His help, He's faithful and just to strengthen you in your weaknesses. It's not about your own power, because you can't do it on your own. It's about Christ's transforming power working in you.
So don't give up. As long as you're still breathing, there's hope. Jesus can change your life and make you a new person if you just ask Him and seek Him. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
As the Bible says in Isaiah 5:11 (NIV): "Woe to those who rise early in the morning to run after their drinks, who stay up late at night till they are inflamed with wine."
I have the freedom to do anything, but not everything is helpful. I have the freedom to do anything, but I won’t be controlled by anything.
Christ has set us free for freedom. Therefore, stand firm and don’t submit to the bondage of slavery again.
Stay alert and pray so that you won’t give in to temptation. The spirit is eager, but the flesh is weak.”
Be clearheaded. Keep alert. Your accuser, the devil, is on the prowl like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
Don’t hang out with those who get drunk on wine or those who eat too much meat,because drunks and gluttons will be impoverished; their stupor will clothe them in rags.
Who is suffering? Who is uneasy? Who has arguments? Who has complaints? Who has unnecessary wounds? Who has glazed eyes?—those who linger over wine; those who go looking for mixed wine.Don’t look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, going down smoothly.In the end, it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper.

No temptation has seized you that isn’t common for people. But God is faithful. He won’t allow you to be tempted beyond your abilities. Instead, with the temptation, God will also supply a way out so that you will be able to endure it.
The grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people.It educates us so that we can live sensible, ethical, and godly lives right now by rejecting ungodly lives and the desires of this world.
Instead, dress yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ, and don’t plan to indulge your selfish desires.
The actions that are produced by selfish motives are obvious, since they include sexual immorality, moral corruption, doing whatever feels good,idolatry, drug use and casting spells, hate, fighting, obsession, losing your temper, competitive opposition, conflict, selfishness, group rivalry,jealousy, drunkenness, partying, and other things like that. I warn you as I have already warned you, that those who do these kinds of things won’t inherit God’s kingdom.
It isn’t for kings, Lemuel, it isn’t for kings to drink wine, for rulers to crave strong drink. Otherwise, they will drink and forget the law, and violate the rights of the needy.
I tried cheering myself with wine and by embracing folly—with wisdom still guiding me—until I might see what is really worth doing in the few days that human beings have under heaven.
Doom to those who wake up early in the morning to run after beer, to those who stay up late, lit up by wine.
These also stagger from wine and stumble from beer: priest and prophet stagger from beer; they are confused by wine; they stray on account of beer; they err when receiving visions; they stumble when making judgments.All the tables are covered with vomit; filth overruns the place.
He’s feeding on ashes; his deluded mind has led him astray. He can’t save himself and say, “Isn’t this thing in my hand a lie?”
Doom to those who devise wickedness, to those who plan evil when they are in bed. By the light of morning they do it, for they are very powerful.

but the worries of this life, the false appeal of wealth, and the desire for more things break in and choke the word, and it bears no fruit.
Then Jesus said to them, “Watch out! Guard yourself against all kinds of greed. After all, one’s life isn’t determined by one’s possessions, even when someone is very wealthy.”
No household servant can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be loyal to the one and have contempt for the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”
Don’t you know that if you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, that you are slaves of the one whom you obey? That’s true whether you serve as slaves of sin, which leads to death, or as slaves of the kind of obedience that leads to righteousness.
(I’m speaking with ordinary metaphors because of your limitations.) Once, you offered the parts of your body to be used as slaves to impurity and to lawless behavior that leads to still more lawless behavior. Now, you should present the parts of your body as slaves to righteousness, which makes your lives holy.
I know that good doesn’t live in me—that is, in my body. The desire to do good is inside of me, but I can’t do it.I don’t do the good that I want to do, but I do the evil that I don’t want to do.But if I do the very thing that I don’t want to do, then I’m not the one doing it anymore. Instead, it is sin that lives in me that is doing it.
So, brothers and sisters, because of God’s mercies, I encourage you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice that is holy and pleasing to God. This is your appropriate priestly service.Don’t be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you can figure out what God’s will is—what is good and pleasing and mature.
Let’s behave appropriately as people who live in the day, not in partying and getting drunk, not in sleeping around and obscene behavior, not in fighting and obsession.Instead, dress yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ, and don’t plan to indulge your selfish desires.
Don’t you know that you are God’s temple and God’s Spirit lives in you?If someone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person, because God’s temple is holy, which is what you are.
Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you? Don’t you know that you have the Holy Spirit from God, and you don’t belong to yourselves?You have been bought and paid for, so honor God with your body.
Don’t you know that all the runners in the stadium run, but only one gets the prize? So run to win.Everyone who competes practices self-discipline in everything. The runners do this to get a crown of leaves that shrivel up and die, but we do it to receive a crown that never dies.So now this is how I run—not without a clear goal in sight. I fight like a boxer in the ring, not like someone who is shadowboxing.Rather, I’m landing punches on my own body and subduing it like a slave. I do this to be sure that I myself won’t be disqualified after preaching to others.
Everything is permitted, but everything isn’t beneficial. Everything is permitted, but everything doesn’t build others up.
So then, if anyone is in Christ, that person is part of the new creation. The old things have gone away, and look, new things have arrived!
What agreement can there be between God’s temple and idols? Because we are the temple of the living God. Just as God said, “I live with them, and I will move among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”Therefore, “come out from among them and be separated, says the Lord. Don’t touch what is unclean. Then I will welcome you.”“I will be a father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty”.
My dear friends, since we have these promises, let’s cleanse ourselves from anything that contaminates our body or spirit so that we make our holiness complete in the fear of God.
You were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only don’t let this freedom be an opportunity to indulge your selfish impulses, but serve each other through love.
I say be guided by the Spirit and you won’t carry out your selfish desires.A person’s selfish desires are set against the Spirit, and the Spirit is set against one’s selfish desires. They are opposed to each other, so you shouldn’t do whatever you want to do.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against things like this.
change the former way of life that was part of the person you once were, corrupted by deceitful desires.Instead, renew the thinking in your mind by the Spiritand clothe yourself with the new person created according to God’s image in justice and true holiness.
Don’t get drunk on wine, which produces depravity. Instead, be filled with the Spirit in the following ways:
Their lives end with destruction. Their god is their stomach, and they take pride in their disgrace because their thoughts focus on earthly things.
So put to death the parts of your life that belong to the earth, such as sexual immorality, moral corruption, lust, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry).
But now set aside these things, such as anger, rage, malice, slander, and obscene language.
So then, let’s not sleep like the others, but let’s stay awake and stay sober.People who sleep sleep at night, and people who get drunk get drunk at night.Since we belong to the day, let’s stay sober, wearing faithfulness and love as a piece of armor that protects our body and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
Avoid every kind of evil.Now, may the God of peace himself cause you to be completely dedicated to him; and may your spirit, soul, and body be kept intact and blameless at our Lord Jesus Christ’s coming.
God didn’t give us a spirit that is timid but one that is powerful, loving, and self-controlled.
Run away from adolescent cravings. Instead, pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace together with those who confess the Lord with a clean heart.
It educates us so that we can live sensible, ethical, and godly lives right now by rejecting ungodly lives and the desires of this world.
So then, with endurance, let’s also run the race that is laid out in front of us, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us. Let’s throw off any extra baggage, get rid of the sin that trips us up,and fix our eyes on Jesus, faith’s pioneer and perfecter. He endured the cross, ignoring the shame, for the sake of the joy that was laid out in front of him, and sat down at the right side of God’s throne.
Pursue the goal of peace along with everyone—and holiness as well, because no one will see the Lord without it.
No one who is tested should say, “God is tempting me!” This is because God is not tempted by any form of evil, nor does he tempt anyone.Everyone is tempted by their own cravings; they are lured away and enticed by them.Once those cravings conceive, they give birth to sin; and when sin grows up, it gives birth to death.
Know this, my dear brothers and sisters: everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to grow angry.This is because an angry person doesn’t produce God’s righteousness.Therefore, with humility, set aside all moral filth and the growth of wickedness, and welcome the word planted deep inside you—the very word that is able to save you.
Therefore, once you have your minds ready for action and you are thinking clearly, place your hope completely on the grace that will be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed.Don’t be conformed to your former desires, those that shaped you when you were ignorant. But, as obedient children,you must be holy in every aspect of your lives, just as the one who called you is holy.
Dear friends, since you are immigrants and strangers in the world, I urge that you avoid worldly desires that wage war against your lives.
Therefore, since Christ suffered as a human, you should also arm yourselves with his way of thinking. This is because whoever suffers is finished with sin.As a result, they don’t live the rest of their human lives in ways determined by human desires but in ways determined by God’s will.You have wasted enough time doing what unbelievers desire—living in their unrestrained immorality and lust, their drunkenness and excessive feasting and wild parties, and their forbidden worship of idols.

These false teachers promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves of immorality; whatever overpowers you, enslaves you.
Don’t love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in them.Everything that is in the world—the craving for whatever the body feels, the craving for whatever the eyes see and the arrogant pride in one’s possessions—is not of the Father but is of the world.And the world and its cravings are passing away, but the person who does the will of God remains forever.
The person who practices sin belongs to the devil, because the devil has been sinning since the beginning. God’s Son appeared for this purpose: to destroy the works of the devil.
because everyone who is born from God defeats the world. And this is the victory that has defeated the world: our faith.Who defeats the world? Isn’t it the one who believes that Jesus is God’s Son?
We know that everyone born from God does not sin, but the ones born from God guard themselves, and the evil one cannot touch them.
The truly happy person doesn’t follow wicked advice, doesn’t stand on the road of sinners, and doesn’t sit with the disrespectful.Instead of doing those things, these persons love the LORD’s Instruction, and they recite God’s Instruction day and night!They are like a tree replanted by streams of water, which bears fruit at just the right time and whose leaves don’t fade. Whatever they do succeeds.
The LORD is my shepherd. I lack nothing.He lets me rest in grassy meadows; he leads me to restful waters;he keeps me alive. He guides me in proper paths for the sake of his good name.
When the righteous cry out, the LORD listens; he delivers them from all their troubles.The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he saves those whose spirits are crushed.
Create a clean heart for me, God; put a new, faithful spirit deep inside me!Please don’t throw me out of your presence; please don’t take your holy spirit away from me.Return the joy of your salvation to me and sustain me with a willing spirit.

Instead, desire first and foremost God’s kingdom and God’s righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me. He has sent me to preach good news to the poor, to proclaim release to the prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, to liberate the oppressed,
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him won’t perish but will have eternal life.God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through him.
The Law stepped in to amplify the failure, but where sin increased, grace multiplied even more.
So now there isn’t any condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.
Although we live in the world, we don’t fight our battles with human methods.Our weapons that we fight with aren’t human, but instead they are powered by God for the destruction of fortresses. They destroy arguments,and every defense that is raised up to oppose the knowledge of God. They capture every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and his powerful strength.Put on God’s armor so that you can make a stand against the tricks of the devil.
I’m sure about this: the one who started a good work in you will stay with you to complete the job by the day of Christ Jesus.
Don’t be anxious about anything; rather, bring up all of your requests to God in your prayers and petitions, along with giving thanks.Then the peace of God that exceeds all understanding will keep your hearts and minds safe in Christ Jesus.
My God will meet your every need out of his riches in the glory that is found in Christ Jesus.
because we don’t have a high priest who can’t sympathize with our weaknesses but instead one who was tempted in every way that we are, except without sin.Finally, let’s draw near to the throne of favor with confidence so that we can receive mercy and find grace when we need help.
Let’s hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, because the one who made the promises is reliable.
Prayer that comes from faith will heal the sick, for the Lord will restore them to health. And if they have sinned, they will be forgiven.For this reason, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous person is powerful in what it can achieve.
Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look! I’m making all things new.” He also said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
