101 Bible Verses about Drunkards

101 Bible Verses about Drunkards

I want to talk to you about something that might be hitting close to home: the struggle with alcohol. It can lead us down some pretty rough paths, hurting ourselves and those around us. It's important to really think about the ripple effect our choices have, you know? We have to own our actions.

If you're finding yourself in situations where alcohol is taking control, please know there's support out there. Don't hesitate to reach out and get the help you need to stay safe and healthy.

From my perspective, alcoholism, like any addiction, is a form of idolatry. Anything we turn to instead of God to fill that deep need in our hearts becomes an idol, and ultimately, a spiritual chain.

I want to share something that can truly set you free from this struggle. It's the power of Christ's blood. I believe it's strong enough to cleanse you, detoxify you, and make you a new person. There's real freedom waiting for you.

Isaiah 28:1-3

Ah, the proud garland of the drunkards of Ephraim, and the fading flower of its glorious beauty, which is on the head of those bloated with rich food, of those overcome with wine! For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little.” Truly, with stammering lip and with alien tongue he will speak to this people,to whom he has said, “This is rest; give rest to the weary; and this is repose”; yet they would not hear. Therefore the word of the Lord will be to them, “Precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little;” in order that they may go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken. Therefore hear the word of the Lord, you scoffers who rule this people in Jerusalem.Because you have said, “We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we have an agreement; when the overwhelming scourge passes through it will not come to us; for we have made lies our refuge, and in falsehood we have taken shelter”;therefore thus says the Lord God, See, I am laying in Zion a foundation stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation: “One who trusts will not panic.”And I will make justice the line, and righteousness the plummet; hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and waters will overwhelm the shelter. Then your covenant with death will be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol will not stand; when the overwhelming scourge passes through you will be beaten down by it.As often as it passes through, it will take you; for morning by morning it will pass through, by day and by night; and it will be sheer terror to understand the message.See, the Lord has one who is mighty and strong; like a storm of hail, a destroying tempest, like a storm of mighty, overflowing waters; with his hand he will hurl them down to the earth. For the bed is too short to stretch oneself on it, and the covering too narrow to wrap oneself in it.For the Lord will rise up as on Mount Perazim, he will rage as in the valley of Gibeon; to do his deed—strange is his deed! and to work his work—alien is his work! Now therefore do not scoff, or your bonds will be made stronger; for I have heard a decree of destruction from the Lord God of hosts upon the whole land.Listen, and hear my voice; Pay attention, and hear my speech.Do those who plow for sowing plow continually? Do they continually open and harrow their ground? When they have leveled its surface, do they not scatter dill, sow cummin, and plant wheat in rows and barley in its proper place, and spelt as the border? For they are well instructed; their God teaches them.Dill is not threshed with a threshing sledge, nor is a cart wheel rolled over cummin; but dill is beaten out with a stick, and cummin with a rod.Grain is crushed for bread, but one does not thresh it forever; one drives the cart wheel and horses over it, but does not pulverize it.This also comes from the Lord of hosts; he is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in wisdom.Trampled under foot will be the proud garland of the drunkards of Ephraim.

When you sit down to eat with a ruler, observe carefully what is before you, Do not remove an ancient landmark or encroach on the fields of orphans, for their redeemer is strong; he will plead their cause against you.Apply your mind to instruction and your ear to words of knowledge.Do not withhold discipline from your children; if you beat them with a rod, they will not die.If you beat them with the rod, you will save their lives from Sheol. My child, if your heart is wise, my heart too will be glad.My soul will rejoice when your lips speak what is right.Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always continue in the fear of the Lord.Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.Hear, my child, and be wise, and direct your mind in the way.and put a knife to your throat if you have a big appetite.Do not be among winebibbers, or among gluttonous eaters of meat;for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe them with rags.Listen to your father who begot you, and do not despise your mother when she is old.Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding. The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; he who begets a wise son will be glad in him.Let your father and mother be glad; let her who bore you rejoice. My child, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways. For a prostitute is a deep pit; an adulteress is a narrow well. She lies in wait like a robber and increases the number of the faithless.Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes?Do not desire the ruler's delicacies, for they are deceptive food.

Prayer

Almighty God, to You be all glory and honor! My Heavenly Father, I come before You, humbled and recognizing that only You have the power to transform, heal, and restore my life. I ask that You free me from every chain, bond, and yoke of slavery that holds me captive to alcohol. Deliver my life from the enemy's grasp. Guided by Your Holy Spirit, let all earthly desires within me die so that I may begin to walk a life of blessing. Guard me and help me have the self-control to stay away from those who tempt me to indulge in these vices, so that I can move forward and restore my relationship with You. Cast down from my mind the deceitful desires of this world, break every bond in my soul and body, and uproot from my life the desire to be intoxicated. Give me the strength and courage to overcome addiction and align my life with Your Word. Your Word says, "Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit." Holy Father, I acknowledge my condition, that I have led a disordered life far from You. I ask that You teach me to walk in the Spirit so that I do not gratify the desires of the flesh. In Jesus' name, Amen.
