101 Bible Verses about Drunkards

101 Bible Verses about Drunkards

I want to talk to you about something that might be hitting close to home: the struggle with alcohol. It can lead us down some pretty rough paths, hurting ourselves and those around us. It's important to really think about the ripple effect our choices have, you know? We have to own our actions.

If you're finding yourself in situations where alcohol is taking control, please know there's support out there. Don't hesitate to reach out and get the help you need to stay safe and healthy.

From my perspective, alcoholism, like any addiction, is a form of idolatry. Anything we turn to instead of God to fill that deep need in our hearts becomes an idol, and ultimately, a spiritual chain.

I want to share something that can truly set you free from this struggle. It's the power of Christ's blood. I believe it's strong enough to cleanse you, detoxify you, and make you a new person. There's real freedom waiting for you.

Isaiah 28:1-3

The kingdom of Israel is doomed! Its glory is fading like the crowns of flowers on the heads of its drunken leaders. Their proud heads are well perfumed, but there they lie, dead drunk. He is trying to teach us letter by letter, line by line, lesson by lesson.”If you won't listen to me, then God will use foreigners speaking some strange-sounding language to teach you a lesson. He offered rest and comfort to all of you, but you refused to listen to him. That is why the Lord is going to teach you letter by letter, line by line, lesson by lesson. Then you will stumble with every step you take. You will be wounded, trapped, and taken prisoner. Now you arrogant leaders who rule here in Jerusalem over this people, listen to what the Lord is saying. You boast that you have made a treaty with death and reached an agreement with the world of the dead. You are certain that disaster will spare you when it comes, because you depend on lies and deceit to keep you safe. This, now, is what the Sovereign Lord says: “I am placing in Zion a foundation that is firm and strong. In it I am putting a solid cornerstone on which are written the words, ‘Faith that is firm is also patient.’Justice will be the measuring line for the foundation, and honesty will be its plumb line.” Hailstorms will sweep away all the lies you depend on, and floods will destroy your security. The treaty you have made with death will be abolished, and your agreement with the world of the dead will be canceled. When disaster sweeps down, you will be overcome. It will strike you again and again, morning after morning. You will have to bear it day and night. Each new message from God will bring new terror! The Lord has someone strong and powerful ready to attack them, someone who will come like a hailstorm, like a torrent of rain, like a rushing, overpowering flood, and will overwhelm the land. You will be like the person in the proverb, who tries to sleep in a bed too short to stretch out on, with a blanket too narrow to wrap himself in.The Lord will fight as he did at Mount Perazim and in the valley of Gibeon, in order to do what he intends to do—strange as his actions may seem. He will complete his work, his mysterious work. Don't laugh at the warning I am giving you! If you do, it will be even harder for you to escape. I have heard the Lord Almighty's decision to destroy the whole country.Listen to what I am saying; pay attention to what I am telling you.Farmers don't constantly plow their fields and keep getting them ready for planting.Once they have prepared the soil, they plant the seeds of herbs such as dill and cumin. They plant rows of wheat and barley, and at the edges of their fields they plant other grain. They know how to do their work, because God has taught them. They never use a heavy club to beat out dill seeds or cumin seeds; instead they use light sticks of the proper size. They do not ruin the wheat by threshing it endlessly, and they know how to thresh it by driving a cart over it without bruising the grains. All this wisdom comes from the Lord Almighty. The plans God makes are wise, and they always succeed. The pride of those drunken leaders will be trampled underfoot.

Romans 15:1-2

We who are strong in the faith ought to help the weak to carry their burdens. We should not please ourselves.Again it says, “Rejoice, Gentiles, with God's people!”And again, “Praise the Lord, all Gentiles; praise him, all peoples!”And again, Isaiah says, “A descendant of Jesse will appear; he will come to rule the Gentiles, and they will put their hope in him.”May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace by means of your faith in him, so that your hope will continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit. My friends: I myself feel sure that you are full of goodness, that you have all knowledge, and that you are able to teach one another. But in this letter I have been quite bold about certain subjects of which I have reminded you. I have been bold because of the privilege God has given meof being a servant of Christ Jesus to work for the Gentiles. I serve like a priest in preaching the Good News from God, in order that the Gentiles may be an offering acceptable to God, dedicated to him by the Holy Spirit. In union with Christ Jesus, then, I can be proud of my service for God.I will be bold and speak only about what Christ has done through me to lead the Gentiles to obey God. He has done this by means of words and deeds,by the power of miracles and wonders, and by the power of the Spirit of God. And so, in traveling all the way from Jerusalem to Illyricum, I have proclaimed fully the Good News about Christ.Instead, we should all please other believers for their own good, in order to build them up in the faith.

Prayer

Almighty God, to You be all glory and honor! My Heavenly Father, I come before You, humbled and recognizing that only You have the power to transform, heal, and restore my life. I ask that You free me from every chain, bond, and yoke of slavery that holds me captive to alcohol. Deliver my life from the enemy's grasp. Guided by Your Holy Spirit, let all earthly desires within me die so that I may begin to walk a life of blessing. Guard me and help me have the self-control to stay away from those who tempt me to indulge in these vices, so that I can move forward and restore my relationship with You. Cast down from my mind the deceitful desires of this world, break every bond in my soul and body, and uproot from my life the desire to be intoxicated. Give me the strength and courage to overcome addiction and align my life with Your Word. Your Word says, "Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit." Holy Father, I acknowledge my condition, that I have led a disordered life far from You. I ask that You teach me to walk in the Spirit so that I do not gratify the desires of the flesh. In Jesus' name, Amen.
