Daniel 5:1-2

Belshazzar the king held a great feast for one thousand of his nobles, and he was drinking wine in the presence of the thousand. The queen entered the banquet hall because of the words of the king and his nobles; the queen answered and said, “O king, live forever! Do not let your thoughts alarm you or the splendor of your face be changed. There is a man in your kingdom in whom is a spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father, illumination, insight, and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods were found in him. And King Nebuchadnezzar, your father, your father the king, set him as chief of the magicians, conjurers, Chaldeans, and diviners. This was because an extraordinary spirit, knowledge and insight, interpretation of dreams, explanation of enigmas, and solving of difficult problems were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Let Daniel now be summoned, and he will declare the interpretation.” Then Daniel was brought in before the king. The king answered and said to Daniel, “Are you that Daniel who is one of the exiles from Judah, whom my father the king brought from Judah? Now I have heard about you that a spirit of the gods is in you, and that illumination, insight, and extraordinary wisdom have been found in you. Just now the wise men and the conjurers were brought in before me that they might read this writing and make its interpretation known to me, but they could not declare the interpretation of the message. But I personally have heard about you, that you are able to give interpretations and solve difficult problems. Now if you are able to read the writing and make its interpretation known to me, you will be clothed with purple and wear a necklace of gold around your neck, and you will rule with power as the third ruler in the kingdom.” Then Daniel answered and said before the king, “Let your gifts remain with you or give your rewards to someone else; however, I will read the writing to the king and make the interpretation known to him. O king, the Most High God granted the kingdom, grandeur, glory, and majesty to Nebuchadnezzar your father. And because of the grandeur which He bestowed on him, all the peoples, nations, and men of every tongue feared and were in dread before him; whomever he wished he killed, and whomever he wished he kept alive, and whomever he wished he raised up, and whomever he wished he made low. When Belshazzar tasted the wine, he said to bring the gold and silver vessels which Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines might drink from them.

Prayer

Good and eternal God, Most High Lord! I praise you because you are just, holy, and worthy of all supreme praise and adoration. Father, I cry out to you, my God in heaven, because only you have the power to free and restore my life. Your word says, "If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." I ask you to break every chain that binds me to alcoholism. Help me strengthen my faith and stand firm against the temptation of this vice with the help of your Holy Spirit. Help me renounce this evil to recover my health, my finances, and my family. I want to walk according to your will because your word truly says, "neither thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." Teach me to live a life pleasing to you and to those around me. I don't want to keep giving the enemy a foothold in my life. Guard me and scatter all those who, in one way or another, try to make me fall back into the vice of alcohol. Lord, I also ask that you free and restore the lives of those who are going through this same situation. Guide them, help them, and may they understand that only in you can they find true freedom, both physical and spiritual, and that only by holding your hand can they overcome any vice, because only you give victory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
